A MAQUOKETA MAN IS AWAITING SURGERY AT UNIVERSITY HOSPITALS IN IOWA CITY AFTER FALLING FROM A CORN CRIB SUNDAY AFTERNOON. LARRY BARTELS IS DOING WELL ACCORDING TO HIS WIFE, MARY. SHE SAID SURGERY TO REPAIR NUMEROUS BROKEN BONES IN HIS FACE AND LEG ARE PLANNED FOR TOMORROW. SHE SAID LARRY FELL FROM THE RAFTERS IN THE CORN CRIB JUST BEFORE 1 P.M. SUNDAY. SHE SAID HE FELL 20 TO 25 FEET ....LANDING FACE-FIRST ON CONCRETE. THE COUPLE LIVES EAST OF MAQUOKETA JUST OFF HIGHWAY 64. HE WAS AIRLIFTED TO IOWA CITY SUNDAY AFTERNOON.
COURT NEWS: SEAN GOODWIN, SR. AGE 33, OF MAQUOKETA, WAS CHARGED WITH PUBLIC INTOXICATION EARLY YESTERDAY MORNING ON PERSHING ROAD.
SEAN HAYLOCK, AGE 20, OF MAQUOKETA, WAS CHARGED WITH MAKING ALCOHOL AVILABLE TO MINORS, EARLY YESTERDAY MORNING IN AN APARTMENT ON WESTERN AVENUE.
CHARLEY DUHME, AGE 87, OF DUBUQUE AND FORMERLY OF ANDREW, DIED SUNDAY AT A DUBUQUE NURSING HOME. HE WORKED AT CLINTON ENGINES ON THE BLOCK LINE FOR OVER 20 YEARS.
SURVIVORS INCLUDE A BROTHER, OSCAR, IN MAQUOKETA AND A SISTER, DOROTHY BARTELS OF DELMAR.
BILL AND AUDREY UPMEYER LAST WEEK CELEBRATED THEIR 55TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY.
I AM GOING TO A BOY SCOUT SPAGETTI SUPPER TONIGHT, AT THE FORMER CITADEL BUILDING AT HORSESHOE POND PARK AT THE SOUTH EDGE OF MAQUOKETA. THAT BUILDING IS BEING USED FOR A LOT OF EVENTS IN ADDITION TO BOY SCOUT MEETINGS. THERE IS A NICE MEETING ROOM WITH KITCHEN IN THE BASEMENT AND THE UPSTAIRS, WHICH WAS THE OLD SALVATION ARMY CHURCH, IS ALSO USED FOR EVENTS, INCLUDING WEDDINGS.
