SATURDAY DAILY

NEW BAND DIRECTOR HOVEY IN HIS FIRST PUBLIC APPEARANCE LEADING
THE MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL BAND, PLAYING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM.
A FEW MINUTES BEFORE, RETIRED DIRECTOR CRAWFORD WAS SALUTED
BEFORE RAISING THE FLAG IN THE UPPER LEFT CORNER.

FRESHMAN-SOPHOMORE GAME, MAQUOKETA WON 21 TO 14.


THE EAST IRON HILL CHURCH IS LOCATED ABOUT 8 MILES FROM MAQUOKETA JUST OFF THE CAVES ROAD.    THIS IS AN OLD PHOTO.
A NEW PHOTO WOULD SHOW A NEW FRONT ENTRANCE AND ADDITION.
ALSO NEW SIDEWALKS.
SORRY I DIDN'T GET PHOTO OF THE NEW LOOK, BUT DID TAKE OTHER
INSIDE PHOTOS WHEN WE VISITED CHURCH THIS AFTERNOON.    THEY HAD
A SHORT DEDICATION OF THE NEW ADDITION AND BEAUTIFUL WINDOW
ABOVE THE  FRONT DOOR.

THE BASEMENT OF THE NEW ADDITION IS THE SUNDAY SCHOOL ROOM.

PASTOR SUSAN LeBLANC AND HUSBAND RAY.    RAY TODAY WAS PRESENTED
A QUILT OF VALOR FOR 20 YEARS SERVICE IN THE AIRFORCE.    SAM
CAVEN OF MAQUOKETA, WHO SERVED IN GERMANY IN WWII,  ALSO WAS
PRESENTED A QUILT TODAY.   RAY SERVED ALL OVER THE WORLD AND HAS
BEEN IN 56 COUNTRIES.    SUSAN HAS BEEN PASTOR AT 9 CHURCHES,
RETIRING FROM GRAND MOUND METHODIST CHURCH 10 YEARS AGO.  THEY THEN MOVED TO MAQUOKETA (NEXT TO CARSON FUNERAL HOME ON
MAQUOKETA'S HISTORIC STREET) AND PASTOR SUSAN WAS ASKED TO
BE PART TIME MINISTER AT EAST IRON HILL CHURCH, A POSITION THAT
CALLS FOR HER TO DO THE SUNDAY MORNING SERVICE AND NO PAPERWORK.    THE SERVICE IS AT 9 A.M. EACH SUNDAY, WITH AN AVERAGE
OF 40 OR SO PER SUNDAY.    AND VISITORS (NEW MEMBERS TOO) ARE ALWAYS WELCOME.
AFTER THE DEDICATION, ALL WENT DOWNSTAIRS FOR ICE CREAM AND
COOKIES.  
SOON..HOPE  YOU GET A CHANCE TO VISIT THIS BEAUTIFUL RURAL IOWA CHURCH.    PLENTY OF ROOM FOR  YOUR CAR TOO AS IT HAS A BIG PARKING LOT ... AND THERE IS A LARGE NICE CEMETERY BEHIND THE CHURCH.     AGAIN, ROOM FOR YOU♰
