THEY STARTED INSTALLATION OF THE NEW WINDOWS ON THE MAQUOKETA ART EXPERIENCE/CHAMBER OF COMMERCE BUILDING IN DOWNTOWN
MAQUOKETA (YEARS AGO,OSTERHAUS PHARMACY) TODAY. THESE 3 WINDOWS ARE IN WHAT WAS THE GREEN MILL BUILDING.
LARRY McDEVITT HAS SPENT WEEKS DOING THE BRICK WORK, PREPARING FOR THE WINDOWS. STOCKHAM AND SON IS DOING THE REST OF THE WORK ON THE NEW FRONT OF THE ENTIRE BUILDING. I'M SURE IT WILL
LOOK GREAT WHEN FINISHED IN OCTOBER OR NOVEMBER.
THERE WILL BE AN ALZHEIMER'S WALK IN MAQUOKETA SEPTEMBER 30TH.
AND TWO RAFFLES A PART OF IT.
KMAQ BUILDING...
OCTOBER 27, 1970 - AUGUST 30, 2017
WE MOVED IN THE DAY AFTER THE OCTOBER 26TH LATE EVENING FIRE AT
OUR FIRST 1958 OFFICE-STUDEO LOCATION AT 136 1/2 SOUTH MAIN.
STILL LOOKING PRETTY GOOD ALONG THE NEW MAIN STREET AFTER
NEARLY 47 YEARS. MOSTLY HIDDEN IS THE BANNER FLYING ON THE
OTHER SIDE OF THE LIGHT POLE. I FIGURE I HAVE WORKED OVER
150,000 HOURS IN THE ABOVE BUILDING. ANOTHER 10-12 HOURS TOMORROW. AND I TAKE OFF EARLY SOME DAYS.
FUN, MOST OF THE TIME.

THE MOVIE BUSINESS IS WAY DOWN THIS YEAR, NATIONWIDE AND HERE
IN MAQUOKETA. YOU MAY HAVE HEARD OR READ THAT THIS PAST
WEEKEND WAS THE WORST SUMMER WEEKEND FOR THEATRE ATTENDANCE IN THE UNITED STATES IN 17 YEARS.
DON'T GET YOUR HANKIE OUT FOR ME JUST YET.
I'VE SEEN THIS HAPPENED MANY TIMES IN THE PAST, AND MOST TIMES,
THE RECOVERY WILL BE QUICK AND GOOD TIMES WILL BEGIN.
LAST YEAR, THE 61 DRIVE-IN HAD A RECORD YEAR AND THIS YEAR
ATTENDANCE IS WAY DOWN. SOME GOOD MOVIES AND WEATHER AND
NEXT YEAR COULD BE ANOTHER RECORD YEAR.
STARTING THIS FRIDAY ON MY THEATRE SCREENS....
FOR MOVIES AND SHOW TIMES..24 HOURS A DAY...GO TO
WWW.VOYTHEATRES.COM OR CALL 563-652-3535.
SEE YOU AT THE MOVIES!

THE FINAL CONNECTING PIECE OF STEEL WAS INSTALLED TODAY. IOWA AND ILLINOIS FINALLY LINKED, WITH THE NEW SAVANNA-SABULA BRIDGE.
THERE IS A CHRISTMAS TREE AND U.S. FLAG AT THE TOP. THIS

A LONGTIME RESIDENT OF MAQUOKETA DIED YESTERDAY. REGINA SAGERS, AGE 104. LATER TODAY OR TOMORROW, THERE SHOULD BE A
PHOTO AND PENDING OBITUARY AT CARSON CELEBRATION OF LIFE
CENTER FUNERAL HOME IN MAQUOKETA. I FIRST MET HER IN 1958 WHEN I
MOVED TO MAQUOKETA IN AUGUST AND RENTED A ROOM FROM HER
MOTHER-IN-LAW, CECELIA SAGERS. REGINA WAS A GRAND LADY.
SURVIVED BY A DAUGHTER AND GRANDCHILDREN.

MY DENTIST FOR OVER 45 YEARS.
MAYBE YOUR DENTIST FOR MANY YEARS TOO.
HE AND 26 OTHERS WERE PRESENTED ONE OF THESE VETERAN'S QUILTS AT A SPECIAL EVENING AT SACRED HEART.
NOW RETIRED, HE REMAINS AN AVID ST. LOUIS CARDINALS FAN.
DENNIS VOY...
MAQUOKETA NATIVE JOHN HINZ HAD A BETTER PLACE TO
OBSERVE THE ECLIPSE THAN WE DID.

THIS ZENITH CONSOLE RADIO WAS A BIG SELLER IN THE 40'S AND 50'S.
I TOOK THIS PHOTO OF IT SUNDAY AFTERNOON AT THE CENTRAL COMMUNITY HISTORICAL SOCIETY 40TH ANNIVERSARY IN DOWNTOWN
DEWITT.
I TOOK THIS PHOTO OF IT SUNDAY AFTERNOON AT THE CENTRAL COMMUNITY HISTORICAL SOCIETY 40TH ANNIVERSARY IN DOWNTOWN
DEWITT.
ANN SOENKSEN STARTED THE SOCIETY AND HAS BEEN THE CURATOR ALL 40 YEARS. SHE GREETED VISITORS FROM 1 UNTIL 4 IN THE MAIN BUILDING.
THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER BUILDINGS. IT IS A VERY LARGE, VERY NICE
MUSEUM ON THE CORNER IN DOWNTOWN DEWITT. OPEN EVERY
SUNDAY AFTERNOON AND NO ADMISSION.
RED HENTON WAS THERE TO ENTERTAIN. JUST AFTER THIS PHOTO HE
ASKED EVERYONE TO JOIN-IN SINGING "YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE".
THERE WERE COOKIES BY THE DOZENS TO PICK FROM AND ICE CREAM TOO.
ANN DEPENDS ON A LOT OF VOLUNTEERS AND BOB LEE, ABOVE, IS
ONE OF THEM. SO IS HIS WIFE RAMONA. BOB, BACK A DOZEN YEARS OR MORE, LIVED IN MAQUOKETA AND WAS THE MANAGER OF "SKEFFINGTON'S JACK AND JILL STORE" IN MAQUOKETA. NOW RETIRED.
ANOTHER VOLUNTEER, JUDY KETELSEN, DID THE SPINNING WHEEL
DEMONSTRATION THROUGHOUT THE AFTERNOON.
WHAT'S A MUSEUM FARM EQUIPMENT DISPLAY WITHOUT A THRESHING
MACHINE. THEY HAVE ONE. OUT OF FOCUS ME, WHEN IN HIGH SCHOOL
AND LIVING ON THE FARM FOR 2 YEARS, USED TO TEND BLOWER ON ONE LIKE THIS.
CONGRATULATIONS TO ANN, THE VOLUNTEERS, AND MEMBERS OF THE CENTRAL COMMUNITY HISTORICAL SOCIEY OF DEWITT AND THE SURROUNDING AREA.
TWO OF IOWA'S BIGGEST FARM LEADERS WERE
ON "JUST TALK" THIS MORNING. AT LEFT, JOE
HEINRICH OF RURAL MAQUOKETA,VICE-PRESIDENT OF THE IOWA FARM BUREAU AND MATT DEPPE OF
LaMOTTE, C.E.O OF THE IOWA CATTLEMEN'S
ASSOCIATION. THEY TOLD ABOUT A RECENT
TRIP THEY WERE ON TO CHINA.
AN ATTEMPTED BREAK-IN LATE SATURDAY NIGHT
AT THE U.S. CELLULAR STORE ON WESTGATE
DRIVE IN MAQUOKETA. NO DETAILS YET.
CAN YOU SEE IT?
I WENT OUT AT 1 P.M. TO THE
HURSTVILLE INTERPRETIVE CENTER
FOR THE EXCITMENT OF SEEING THE
ECIPLSE. MANY KIDS AND ADULTS THERE LOOKING UP AT THE SKY.
WITH GLASSES, CEREAL BOXES, AND
OTHERS.
IT WAS EXCITING!
BUT..
IT WAS DISAPPOINTING!
1:13 P.M. CAME...
DARKNESS DID NOT COME.
FOR MOST...HARD TO SEE IT!
OR VERY LITTLE!
TWO REASONS....WE WERE NOT IN
LINE TO SEE IT AT ITS BEST....AND
IT WAS CLOUDY.
BUT A GOOD TIME WAS HAD BY ALL.
AS FOR ME...I'D RATHER LOOK UP
INTO THE SKY....
AT A DRIVE-IN MOVIE
