OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER ON GRANT STREET NEAR DOWNTOWN CLINTON. AND WE BOTH ENJOYED OUR VISIT AND RECOMMEND YOU SEE IT.
BETTER THAN WE EXPECTED AND ONLY $4 ADMISSION. CLINTON SHOULD BE PROUD. A LOOK AT A FEW PHOTOS I TOOK......
THE FRONT DOOR ABOVE AND BELOW, THE ENTRANCE WAY, WITH VERY NICE RESTROOMS
TO ONE CORNER AND GIFT SHOP AT ANOTHER
CLINTON WAS THE LUMBER CAPITOL OF THE U.S.A BACK AROUND 1880 AND FOR ABOUT 50 YEARS, UNTIL THEY RAN OUT OF GOOD TREES IN IOWA,
MINNESOTA AND WISCONSIN. THOUSANDS WORKED AT SEVERAL BIG MILLS, AND THEIR OWNERS BUILDT BIG, BEAUTIFUL HOMES IN CLINTON, ALL STILL STANDING AND TOURS CAN BE TAKEN IN ONE.
ABOVE, AS SOON AS YOU WALK INTO THE VERY
LARGE BUILDING, PUSH A BUTTON AND WATCH A VIDEO ON LUMBER MILLS.
WALK THROUGH THE DOOR ABOVE INTO A SPECIAL ROOM FOR A VERY NEAT PRESENTATION.
LOOKS LKIE 4 LARGE PICTURES ON EASELS, RIGHT? PUSH A BUTTON AND THESE 4 LUMBER BARRONS COME TO LIFE AND BEGIN A DISCUSSION BETWEEN THEM ABOUT THE LUMBER BUSINESS IN CLINTON COUNTY IN 1880. THEIR LIPS MOVE, EYES MOVE, HEAD TURNS....ONE OF THE BEST MUSEUM ROOMS I HAVE EVER BEEN IN.
WE VISITED ALL 3 LOG CABINS USED BY LOGGERS...A SLEEPING ROOM, THE THE COOK'S KITCHEN...AND A CAMP STORE.
TAKE THE KIDS. THEY HAVE SEVERAL THINGS FOR THE KIDS TO DO WHILE YOU TOUR THE MUSEUM, INCLUDING ON BUSY DAYS, A KIDDIE TRAIN....
THIS IS THEIR TRAIN, BUT I TOOK THIS PHOTO OF IT LAST WEEK AT THE NATIONAL NITE OUT EVENT IN DEWITT. AS A PUBLIC SERVICE TO THE
NEIGHBORING COMMUNITY, THEY BROUGHT THE TRAIN TO DEWITT FOR THE TWO HOUR EVEN.
THEY HAVE ONE LARGE ROOM WHERE YOU LOOK
THROUGH WINDOWS AT A WORKING MILL, WHERE
(WHEN IT IS IN OPERATION) YOU CAN SEE LOGS
BEING TURNED INTO BUILDING LUMBER. CALL
AHEAD (CHECK OUT THEIR NICE WEB SITE) TO FIND
OUT WHEN THEY DO THIS.
NO MORE PHOTOS. YOU NEED TO SEE THIS
MUSEUM IN PERSON. TAKE A GROUP AND ARRANGE FOR A SPECIAL GUIDE.
