BROWN BAG LUNCH

THE JACKSON COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY SPONSORS "BROWN BAG LUNCH" DAY EVERY TUESDAY FROM 12 TO 1 AT THE CLINTON ENGINES MUSEUM.  FREE TO EVERYONE INTERESTED IN JACKSON COUNTY HISTORY.
TODAY, TWO TOPICS.
RICHARD E  STIMMEL, NOW A STATE OF IOWA PROFESSIONAL RESEARCHER,
GAVE A SHORT PRESENTATION ON SOME OLD GLASS BOTTLE FIRE
EXTINGUISHERS THAT (WERE FOUND) CAME FROM THE LaMOTTE RAILROAD DEPOT THAT HAS BEEN GIVEN TO THE HISTORICAL SOCIETY.     DIXIE CLAUSSEN GAVE THEM, AND THE DEPOT ITSELF,  TO THE SOCIETY AND RICHARD TOLD THEIR HISTORY AND HOW THEY WERE USED IN RAILROADING
FIRE PREVENTION.
BONNIE MITCHELL AND MARK STREFF THEN GAVE PROGRAM ABOUT "THE BOWER HOTEL" OF BELLEVUE IN AND AROUND I876.   DIXIE CLAUSSEN (FROM THE LaMOTTE DEPOT) GAVE THE SOCIETY AN OLD REGISTER FROM THE BOWER HOTEL, WHICH WAS LOCATED ON 2ND STREET, NEXT TO CITY HALL.
IT IS NO LONGER THERE.   THE REGESTER HAS NAMES (AND MANY COMMENTS)  FROM HOTEL VISITORS FROM AROUND THE COUNTRY.
AS ALWAYS, AN ENJOYABLE NOON HOUR LOOKING BACK AT JACKSON COUNTY'S  EARLY HISTORY.    MARK USED AN OLD "GIZMO" THE SOCIETY OWNS THAT PROJECTS PAGES OF BOOKS ON TO A LARGE SCREEN
FOR EASIER VIEWING.
COMING COMING COMING...THE  SOCIETY WEEK-LONG GARAGE SALE AT BOYER HALL....THE MOVING OF  THE DEPOT TO MAQUOKETA....
AND THE ERGON PENNINGROTH MACHINERY SHED DEDICATION DAY.   THEN
LATER THIS SUMMER, THE DEDICATION OF THE FAMOUS HARNESS RACING
HORSE TOMBSTONE AT THE FAIRGROUNDS RACE TRACK.    ALWAYS  ALWAYS
ALWAYS....SOMETHING IS BEING PLANNED BY THE JACKSON COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEMBERS AND THE PUBLIC.
