GEORGE SPALDING

CARPENTERS HAVE A HAMMER.
MECHANICS HAVE A WRENCH.
COOKS HAVE A  POT.
BASEBALL PLAYERS HAVE A BAT.
RADIO ANNOUNCERS HAVE A MIC.
SHOE SALESMEN HAVE.....BELOW.....

THIS WAS GEORGE SPALDING'S HELPER.   IT WAS ON DISPLAY AT THE FUNERAL HOME FRIDAY FOR ALL TO SEE.    MANY OF YOU BOUGHT SHOES
FROM GEORGE.    FIRST HE GAVE YOU THAT FRIENDLY SMILE AND SOFT-SPOKEN  "HELLO".....AND THEN HE GRABBED THE SHOE MEASURING
DEVICE ABOVE.    AND THEN HE BROUGHT THEM ON....THIS STYLE....HERE'S ANOTHER YOU MIGHT LIKE....OR HOW ABOUT THIS ONE....LET ME TRY IT
ON YOU SAID.....THEN YOU WALKED AROUND THE STORE.....THEN LOOKED
IN THE MIRROR.....GEORGE KEPT SMILING.....AND FINIALLY YOU DECIDED
ON THE PAIR YOU WANTED.   GEORGE WOULD SAY.....DO YOU WANT TO
WEAR THEM HOME?    AND SO, PAY TIME (WITH CASH OR CHECK, NO DEBIT CARDS THEN) AND YOU WERE A HAPPY CUSTOMER OF SPALDING'S SHOE
STORE IN MAQUOKETA.      GEORGE, WHO DIED THIS WEEK AT AGE 88, SOLD SHOES IN MAQUOKETA FOR OVER 50  YEARS.    HAS TO BE A RECORD.
AND HE WAS A GOOD, GOOD CITIZEN.   BUT MOST OF ALL....HE WAS A NICE GUY!
