MONDAY DAILY REPORT

NICE DAY TODAY AND  SHOULD BE NICE ALL WEEK, WITH TEMPEATURES
IN THE MID TO UPPER 70'S.

FRIDAY, HUNDREDS OF VINTAGE CARS WILL BE COMING UP FROM BETTENDORF AND PASSING THROUGH MAQUOKETA ON THEIR WAY NORTH TO BELLEVUE ON HIGHWAY 62,
THEY WILL BE COMING BETWEEN 10 A.M. AND 2 P.M. AND MANY WILL BE
STOPPING DOWNTOWN AROUND THE GREEN SPACE AREA.   THE CORONADO
CAR CLUB WILL BE THERE TO GREET AND WELCOME THEM.     THERE WILL BE  A D-J THERE.    NO FOOD STANDS ARE PLANNED BUT THERE WILL BE FLYERS DIRECTING THEM TO LOCAL FOOD ESTABLISHMENTS.   AGAIN,
HUNDREDS OF CARS, MAYBE OVER A THOUSAND, ARE EXPECTED.

THERE WAS, FRIDAY AFTERNOON, A BARN FIRE AT MIKE DUHME'S FARM NEAR ZWINGLE.    MIKE'S ANTIQUES ALSO LOCATED THERE.    THE BARN
WAS FULLY ENGULFED AND NEARLY ON THE GROUND WHEN FIREMEN
ARRIVED.   A SMALLER NEARBY BARN WAS ALSO DAMAGED.   THE
"ANTIQUES"  BARN WAS NOT DAMAGED.     TWO FIVE-YEAR ODL TWINS
SET FIRE TO SOME TWINE WITH A LIGHTER AND THAT STARTED THE BLAZE.  THE BARN IS RENTED AND IT WAS THE RENTER'S CHILDREN.     THE KIDS HAD RECEIVED FIRE PREVENTION TRAINING IN SCHOOL AND APPARENTLY WERE CURIOUS ABOUT FIRES.   MAQUOKETA FIREMEN ASSISTED AT THE SCENE.

THE MAQUOKETA SCHOOL BOARD MEETS TONIGHT.     FIRST AT 6, A JOINT MEETING WITH THE ANDREW SCHOOL BOARD.     AT THE REGULAR MEETING AT 7:15 AT THE DISTRICT OFFICE, THERE WILL BE SOME RESIGNATIONS AND SOME NEW HIRES.

MAQUOKETA'S AERIAL FIRE TRUCK WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO MAKE THE TURNS AT MAIN AND QUARRY IF BUMPOUTS ARE BUILT AT THE INTERSECTION.   SUNDAY, SEVERAL TOOK THE TRUCK FOR A TRIAL RUN
AND FOUND THIS OUT.    "BUMPOUTS"  ARE IN THE PLAN FOR THE NEW
STREETSCAPE PROGRAM BEING PLANNED  FOR DOWNTOWN MAQUOKETA.

THE CITY COUNCIL PERSONNEL COMMITTEE WILL BE INTERVIEWING THREE LAW FIRMS FOR THE MAQUOKETA  CITY ATTORNEY POSITION.
THE COUNCIL DECIDED TO GO OUT FOR BIDS INSTEAD OF REHIRING
CURRENT MAQUOKETA ATTORNEY KEN WRIGHT.      ONE FIRM COMING FOR INTERVIEW IS FROM DUBUQUE AND ANOHTER FROM CEDAR RAPIDS.
THE WRIGHT LAW FIRM IN MAQUOKETA WILL ALSO BE INTERVIEWED.

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR SANDRA JO KLEIN, AGE 36, OF SPRINGBROOK, WILL BE THIS THURSDAY AT 11 A.M. AT THE CATHOLIC CHURCH IN PRESTON.
SHE DIED IN A CAR ACCIDENT  FRIDAY NEAR ANDREW.    SHE WAS THE MANAGER OF KWIK STAR ON WEST PLATT STREET AND A MEMBER OF THE
SPRINGBROOK CITY COUNCIL.   SHE IS SURVIVED BY HER HUSBAND JOHN AND TWO YOUNG DAUGHTERS.

A MAQUOKETA NATIVE, PHILIP SCHOENTHATLER, AGE 57, OF  CEDAR RAPIDS, DIED FRIDAY.   HE WAS EMPLOYED AT THE EASTERN IOWA AIRPORT AND
AT  WILDWOOD STEAKHOUSE IN IOWA CITY.   HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE,
TWO DAUGHTERS, HIS MOTHER NORMA MOTTET IN MAQUOKETA AND
A BROTHER MARTY.   CREMATION HAS TAKEN PLACE.    THERE WILL NOT BE A FUNERAL SERVICE AT THIS TIME  AND A "CELEBRATORY SERVICE" WILL BE HELD JUNE 22ND AT THE EAGLES CLUB IN CEDAR RAPIDS.

HAVE A NICE WEEK.
