A PRESS CONFERENCE WAS HELD THIS MORNING REGARDING THE
SHOOTING OF MAQUOKETA POLICE OFFICER SGT. BRENDAN ZEIMET TWO WEEKS ON GROVE STREET.
BROUGHT UP AT THE PRESS CONFERENCE THIS MORNING:
ZEIMET IS GOING BACK TO WORK TOMORROW.
IT HAS BEEN DETERMINED THAT SGT. ZEIMET'S USE OF DEADLY FORCE
WAS (AS THE COUNTY ATTORNEY PUT IT) JUSTIFIED AND REASONABLE.
ZEIMET SHOT 7 TIMES AT AARON SCOTT.
SCOTT FIRED 19 TIMES.
ZEIMET WAS WOUNDED IN THE LEFT FOREARM.
SCOTT WAS HIT IN THE LEG.
SCOTT HAD SOME SORT OF FALLING OUT WITH THE GIRL HE HAD BEEN SEEING.
SCOTT CALLED HIS ESTRANGED WIFE AND TOLD HER SHE NEEDED TO GET THE HOUSE TO TAKE CARE OF THEIR SON AS HE HAD A SCORE TO SETTLE.
SCOTT DIED OF SELF-INFLICTED GUNSHOT WOUND.
HIS ESTRANGED WIFE FOUND A NUMBER OF AMMO BOXES AND A SUICIDE NOTE.
THE DCI SAID SCOTT HAD A HISTORY OF MENTAL HEALTH AND ALCOHOL ABUSE ISSUES. DCI AGENT MATT GEORGE SAID IT WAS FORTUNATE ZEIMET SUFFERED NO FURTHER INJURIES BASED ON THE NUMBER (19) OF ROUNDS SCOTT FIRED. HE ALSO SAID SCOTT HAD A VALID PERMIT FROM JONES COUNTY FOR THE GUNS HE HAD WITH HIM.
AT THE PRESS CONFERENCE TODAY, A VIDEO WAS SHOWN TAKEN FROM INSIDE SGT. ZEIMET'S PATROL CAR THAT SHOWS HIS CAR APPROCHING THE SCOTT TRUCK, STOPPING, AND SHOWS BOTH ....AND THE SHOOTING. I DID
A GOOGLE FOR MAQUOKETA SENTINEL-PRESS AND WATCHED THE 2 MINUTE VIDEO.
AN ACCIDENT AT 10:30 FRIDAY NIGHT ON HIGHWAY 61 ABOUT A HALF-MILE
NORTH OF THE BELLEVUE-CASCADE ROAD. JASON EADS, 21, OF MAQUOKETA, WAS DRVING SOUTH ON 61 AND HIT A COW WHICH
HAD WALKED ONTO THE ROAD. THE TRUCK WAS TOTALED AND THE COW OWNED BY DOUGLAS VEACH OF RURAL LAMOTTE WAS KILLED. EADS WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL IN MAQUOKETA WITH POSSIBLE INJURIES.
THE MAQUOKETA FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED TO MAQUOKETA WEB
PRINTING AT 8 THIS MORNING BECAUSE OF SMOKE COMING FROM AN UPSTAIRS BREAK ROOM. IT WAS A MULFUNCTIONING FURNACE AND THERE
WAS NO FIRE.
THE KIWANIS AND YMCA HOSTED THE LOCAL PITCH, HIT AND RUN EVENT
APRIL 11TH. 25 YOUTH PARTICIPATED. CHAMPIONS WERE:
7/8 YEAR OLD: GIRL'S WINNER, ALIVIA SAMS...BOY'S WINNERS, TYE HARDIN, AYDEN GJERSTAD, KALEB STEPHANY AND JACE ARMBRUSTER.
9/10 YEAR OLD: GIRL'S, JORDAN ARMBRUSTER...BOY'S, DEVIN GARDNER, BRADY PAULS, DYLAN SAID.
11/12 YEAR OLD: GIRL'S, JADE ARMBRUSTER....BOY'S, KANNON COAKLEY, JACK DOSTAL, DANIEL COYLE.
13/14 YEAR OLD: ONLY BOYS ENTERED. WINNER, KANE KOPP
ALL THE CHAMPIONS HAVE NOW QUALIFIED FOR THE SECTIONAL SATURDAY,
MAY 17TH IN BETTENDORF.
LEFT TO RIGHT: JORDAN ARMBRUSTER, JADE ARMBRUSTER, DYLAN SAID,
TYE HARDIN AND JACE ARMBRUSTER.
KIWANIS MEMBER BOB GAVIN WAS WAS IN CHARGE OF THE EVENT.
THOSE WHO GO ALL THE WAY IN COMPETITION WILL COMPETE FOR THE
NATIONAL TITLE IN MINNEAPOLIS DURING THE MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL
ALL-STAR WEEK.
