89 TODAY.
MAQUOKETA AND MANY SCHOOLS LEFT OUT EARLY THIS AFTERNOON.
TOMORROW, IN THE LOW 90'S AND AGAIN I SUSPECT THERE WILL BE
EARLY OUTS.
KMAQ IS 55 TODAY. WE HAD OUR FIRST FULL DAY OF BROADCASTING ON KMAQ (AM ONLY--KMAQ-FM CAME IN1967) ON AUGUST 26, 1958.
GO TO THE KMAQ WEB SITE...WWW.KMAQ.COM AND CLICK-ON THE
KMAQ HISTORY BUTTON FOR PHOTOS AND INFORMATION ABOUT THE
YEARS GONE BY.
THIS WAS OUR FRONT DOOR AT 136 1/2 SOUTH MAIN STREET. THE WINDOWS UPSTAIRS LOOKED OVER MAIN STREET....A GOOD VIEW OF MAIN.
LAST WEEK, SOMEONE SANDED THE WINDOWS AND WILL SOON BE
PAINTED. I DON'T KNOW WHO OWNS THE BUILDING NOW. THE KMAQ OWNERS THEN (I PURCHASED STATION IN 1965) FIXED UP THE UPSTAIRS
FOR RADIO BROADCASTING AND RENTED THE UPSTAIRS FOR $35 A MONTH.
I STARTED WORK THE WEEK BEFORE FOR $60 A WEEK.
IT WAS A HOT DAY ON THAT FIRST DAY, BUT WE HAD A NEW WATER-COOLED
AIR-CONDITONER PURCHASED FROM KELLAMS AND BERTSCH. I REMEMBER
THAT WE GOT LOTS OF PHONE CALLS THAT DAY AND THAT WEEK, SAYING
THEY HEARD US AND WHERE THEY LIVED. IT WAS A FUN TIME.
TODAY I GOT THE FLOWERS ABOVE, A CARD FROM FIRST MANAGER
BOB BROWN IN FORT ATKINSON, WISCONSIN AND A COUPLE PHONE CALLS.
ALSO DID THE FIRST-HALF OF "JUST TALK" WITH SHERI MELVOLD, TALKING
ABOUT THE 55 YEARS. IT HAS BEEN A NICE DAY. OUR CELEBRATION WILL
NOW CONTINUE WITH OUR 55TH ANNIVERSARY BUMPER STICKER
PROMOTION. TOMORROW RUSTY WILL BE GONE FOR THE DAY,SO I WILL
FILL IN AND I'LL GET UP AT 4:30 AND SIGN-ON THE STATIONS AT 5:38.
NORMALLY I DON'T COME IN UNTIL 6:30 WHEN I TAKE OVER THE FM
CONTROLS. STILL LOVE RADIO!
A MAQUOKETA MAN IS BEING HELD IN JAIL HERE IN TOWN ON $10,000 CASH BOND. MARTY CLARK, AGE 42, WAS CHARGED WITH KNOWINGLY
INTRODUCING CONTRABAND INTO THE DETENTION CENTER YESTERDAY
MORNING.
A GARAGE FIRE AT 6 THIS MORNING AT 109 N. ELIZA, ACROSS THE STREET
EAST OF THE FIRST LUTHERN CHURCH. WHEN FIREMEN ARRIVED, FLAMES
WERE SHOOTING OUT OF THE TOP OF THE GARAGE. NONE OF THE 9 LIVING IN THE HOME WERE INJURED. THE HOME IS OWNED BY KLARRY KUHLMAN
AND THE ROSA EZSEKIEL FAMILY LIVES IN THE HOME. THE DAMAGE
ESTIMATE, BETWEEN 15 AND 20-THOUSAND DOLLARS TO THE GARAGE.
KEEP COOL.
