TWO VOY THEATRE TICKETS....A TICKET TO SEE THE PEACE PIPE PLAYERS PRODUCTION OF "ON GOLDEN POND" FEB 10-11-12 ....AND A BOX OF GIRL
SCOUT COOKIES. IT COST HER NOTHING TO PLAY AND SHE GOT HER FREE
WINNING ORANGE BINGO CARD FROM WAL MART IN MAQUOKETA.

DOLLAR STORES ARE DOING WELL!
WE HAVE THE TWO LARGEST...RIGHT HERE IN MAQUOKETA, DOLLAR GENERAL AND FAMILY DOLLAR, BOTH ON WEST PLATT. PLUS, FAMILY DOLLAR HAS A HUGE DISTRIBUTION CENTER AT THE SOUTH EDGE OF TOWN.
AND A NEWSPAPER STORY THIS PAST WEEKEND SAID THESE TWO CHAINS ARE OPENING HUNDREDS OF NEW LOCATIONS.
DOLLAR GENERAL, THE LARGEST CHAIN, HAS 9,800 STORES AND WILL
OPEN 625 MORE THIS YEAR. FAMILY DOLLAR HAS 7,100 STORES AND PLANS TO OPEN AROUND 500 NEW STORES THIS YEAR.
WE HAVE A SUPER DOLLAR STORE DOWNTOWN (A SMALL CHAIN) AND
EVERYTHING IN THE STORE IS A DOLLAR OR LESS.
AND OF COURSE, WE HAVE WAL MART!
WAL MART IS A REGULAR ADVERTISER ON KMAQ BUT THE THREE DOLLAR
STORES NEVER ADVERTISE WITH US.
THE FOUR STORES....ALL OPEN EVERY DAY....BRING LOTS OF SHOPPERS TO
THE TIMBER CITY.
AND THESE DAYS....MORE AND MORE....THEIR BIG COMPETITION IS
THE INTERNET!
QUITE DIFFERENT FROM THE DAYS IN THE 40'S AND 50'S AND 60'S WHEN
MOST SHOPPING IN MAQUOKETA WAS DONE DOWNTOWN AND FINDING
A STORE TO RENT OR OWN DOWNTOWN WAS NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE.

THE COUNTY HAS A CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT FUND IN WHICH THE CHECK
WILL BE DEPOSITED. CURRENTLY, THE COUNTY HS ABOUT $215,000
IN THE CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT FUND....$50,000 IN THE FARM ACCOUNT....
$196,000 IN THE FORMER CARE FACILITY ACCOUNT....AND NOW WITH THE S & H MONEY, THE COUNTY'S TOTAL OF CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT FUNDS IS MORE THAN $900,000.

WHO DIED SUNDAY AT METHODIST HOSPITAL IN DES MOINES WILL BE

THE GIRLS HOST ANAMOSA AT THE MCHS GYM. NO GAME BROADCAST
