CLOUDY AND MID 20'S TODAY.

NO ONE SPOKE AT THE PUBLIC HEARING TODAY HELD AT THE COURTHOUSE
BY THE SUPERVISORS, REGARDING SELLING OF TWO PARCELS OF LAND OWNED BY JACKSON COUNTY. ONE PROPERTY IS THE OLD TRUCK STOP (BUILDING AND LAND)
ON THE HIGHWAY 61 BYPASS AND THE OTHER(LAND ONLY) IS LOCATED ON CRESLANE DRIVE. NOW THE SUPERVISORS WILL PROCEED WITH PUBLIC NOTICES AND WILL TAKE SEALED BIDS. BIDS MUST BE BACK BY FEBRUARY 18TH AND WILL BE OPENED
BY THE SUPERVISORS AT THEIR FEBRUARY 22ND MEETING.

TWO AREA MEN, INJURED IN AN ACCIDENT AT TWO RIVERS CO-OP IN PELLA LAST FRIDAY AFTERNOON REMAIN HOSPITALIZED IN DES MOINES. FACEBOOK FRIENDS
INDENTIFY THE INJURED AS TEAGAN ROUSE OF RURAL MAQUOKETA AND JUSTIN
FORDE OF OXFORD JUNCTION. THEY ARE EMPLOYEES OF TRI-STATE MILLRIGHT AND CRANE OF OLIN, IOWA. THEY WERE PERFORMING MAINTENANCE ON THE
CO-OP STRUCTURE WHEN THEY APPARENTLY FELL AND SUSTAINED SERIOUS
INJURIES. THEIR BOSS, THE OWNER OF TRI-STATE MILLRIGHT AND CRANE TOLD KMAQ NEWS THIS AFTERNOON THAT THE TWO ARE IN THE PROCESS OF RECOVERING. HE WOULD NOT TALK ABOUT SPECIFIC INJURIES OR HOW THE
ACCIDENT HAPPENED. NOR WOULD HE OFFICIALLY IDENTIFY THE TWO MEN.
THE PELLA POLICE TOLD KMAQ THEY RESPONDED TO THE INCIDENT BUT HAVE NO NAMES LISTED ON THEIR REPORT. AND THE HOSPITALS, SIGHTING PRIVACY
LAWS, REFUSED TO RELEASE NAMES OR CONDITIONS. THE WIFE OF TEAGAN
ROUSE IS CARRIE AND SHE IS WELL KNOWN IN THIS AREA. SHE WORKED FOR ME
YEARS AGO AT THE THEATRE AND FOR MANY YEARS, HAS WORKED THE SIGN-IN
DESK FOR STOCK CAR DRIVERS AT SATURDAY NIGHT STOCK CAR RACES IN
MAQUOKETA.

JACKSON COUNTY SHERIFF RUSS KETTMAN TOLD KMAQ NEWS THAT EFFORTS
TO RECOVER THE BODY OF MISSING SNOWMOBILER SHAWN BERTHEL, 23, OF PRESTON, HAVE ENDED. THE OPERATOR OF THE OTHER SNOWMOBILE, BRETT STALKER OF SABULA, WAS ABLE TO CLIMB FROM THE RIVER TO SAFETY. KETTMAN SAID BOTH OF THE SNOWMOBILES HAVE BEEN LOCATED IN THE RIVER BUT WILL BE LEFT IN THE RIVER FOR THE TIME BEING BECAUSE OF SAFETY
CONCERNS. AUTHORITIES SAY THE RIVER IS ABOUT 3 TO 6 FEET DEEP IN
THE IMMEDIATE AREA BUT DEEPER IN NEARBY SPOTS. THE RIVER IS VERY
CLEAR WITH A FAIRLY STRONG CURRENT THIS TIME OF THE YEAR.

THE MAQUOKETA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ANNUAL MEETING WAS HELD
THIS MORNING AT VASHELLES RESTAURANT. TWO NEW BOARD MEMBERS
WERE INTRODUCED. THEY ARE MIKE KOLL, MANAGER OF THE FAREWAY STORE
AND DAVE UPDEGRAFF, HUMAN RESOURCES OFFICER AT OHNWARD BANCSHARES.
THE NEW CHAMBER PRESIDENT IS TOM DEVINE WHO IS AN EMPLOYEE OF THE YMCA. HE REPLACES KAYTHY SEYFERT OF FIDELITY BANK. THE PRESIDENT'S AWARD WENT TO RON SHAFER AND MARISSA WEIS FOR THEIR WORK WITH
THE TOYS FOR TOTS PROGRAM IN JACKSON COUNTY. CHAMBER DIRECTOR
STACY DRISCOLL PRESENTED HER ANNUAL AWARD TO THE MAQUOKETA SENTINAL
PRESS AND EDITOR DOUG MELVOLD ACCEPTED ON BEHALF OF ALL OF THE EMPLOYEES OF THE PAPER. SERVICE AWARDS WERE GIVEN TO FORMER STATE
SENATOR ROGER STEWART AND FORMER STATE REPRESENTATIVE TOM
SCHUELLER.

THE ANNUAL PINE WOOD DERBY SPONSORED BY CUB SCOUTS PACK #238 WAS HELD SATURDAY AT THE DELWOOD SCHOOL IN DELMAR. THE RACE WINNERS WERE:
1ST PLACE, THAYNE CHAPIN. 2ND PLACE, DANIEL COYLE. AND 3RD PLACE, SCOTT
MILLER.
THE DESIGN WINNERS WERE: 1ST PLACE, JACK THINES. 2ND PLACE, OWEN POWERS AND 3RD PLACE, NOAH RUCHOTZKE.

WRESTLING TONIGHT ON KMAQ-FM AND OUR WEB SITE, FROM THE OLD MCHS GYM. PAUL KOOB AND LEIGHTON HEPKER WILL DESCRIBE THE HOLDS.
BASKETBALL IN THE NEW GYM WITH THE CARDS HOSTING WEST DELAWARE.
THE GIRLS WILL BE UP AT MANCHESTER.
