THE CLEAN-UP OF FIRE DEBRIS CONTINUES TOMORROW IN DOWNTOWN MAQUOKETA.
HERE YOU SEE THE BACK WALL OF THE FURNITURE STORE STILL STANDING. IT WILL PROBABLY BE KNOCKED DOWN AND HAULED THIS WEEK. AND THE BUILDING
IN BACK, WITH SLANTED ROOF, IS THE BUILDING THAT THE DNR WOULD NOT LET
LOCAL AUTHORITIES TAKE DOWN AND REMOVE YET. IT WILL BE TAKEN DOWN
AFTER ALL REQUIREMENTS ARE MET, SOMETIME THIS SUMMER. TOO BAD THERE HAS TO BE THE DELAY ON IT. ON THE CORNER TO THE LEFT OF THIS PHOTO IS
THE OLD GRAIN MILL. HOPEFULLY, IT WILL ALSO BE TAKEN DOWN SOMETIME. THE BIGGEST SURPRISE LAST WEEK WAS THE AMOUNT OF CARPET, VINYL AND OTHER FLOOR COVERING MATERIALS THAT WERE FOUND, MOSTLY INTACT, IN THE FORMER
BREITBACH FLOOR COVERING BUILDING. CLICK-ON PHOTO TO ENLARGE IT.
