80 DEGREES IN MAQUOKETA TODAY.
A LOT DONE AGAIN TODAY IN THE CLEAN-UP OF THE FIRE MESS. THE WALLS
IN THE BACK OF THE FURNITURE STORE, IN THE PHOTO I TOOK OVER THE WEEKEND,
WERE KNOCKED DOWN TODAY. BIG CHANGE. MAIN STREET WILL BE CLOSED
FOR THE REST OF THIS WEEK NEAR THE CLEAN-UP AREA SO THEY CAN
DISCONNECT PERMANTLY THE WATER AND SEWER LINES THAT WENT TO THE
BURNED DOWN BASEMENTS. FORGOT TO TELL YOU.......LAST WEEK THEY
FOUND WATER RUNNING FROM A BROKEN PIPE IN ONE OF THE BASEMENTS AND BELIEVE THAT WATER HAS BEEN RUNNING SINCE THE FIRE.
THE PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT IN LITTLE BEAR PARK WILL BE REPLACED WITHIN 5 YEARS. THAT DECISION WAS MADE LAST NIGHT AT THE MAQUOKETA CITY
COUNCIL MEETING. THE 18 YEAR-OLD PARK IS WEARING OUT. REPAIRS WILL
BE MADE WHILE PLANS FOR A NEW PLAYGROUND ARE MADE AND MONEY
IS RAISED. IT IS EXPECTED TO BE A $100,000 OR MORE PROJECT.
LARRY GIBSON, AGE 55, OF ELWOOD AND FORMERLY OF MAQUOKETA, DIED
IN A ONE-CAR ACCIDENT AT 1:30 THIS MORNING ON HIGHWAY 136 AT 130TH STREET NEAR ELWOOD. HE FAILED TO NEGOTIATE A CURVE, WENT INTO THE DITCH AND ROLLED AND WAS EJECTED FROM THE CAR.
A BREAK-IN AT B & G AUTOMOTIVE IN HURSTVILLE LAST NIGHT.
TAKEN, CASH AND OTHER ITEMS. A $2,000 REWARD IS BEING OFFERED FOR
INFORMATION LEADING TO THE ARREST OF THOSE RESPONSIBLE.
THANKS FOR CHECKING IN.
