76 DEGREES TODAY...BEAUTIFUL DAY. TOMORROW AND SUNDAY SHOULD ALSO BE VERY NICE.

WE HAVE TWO MAQUOKETA GIRLS GOING TO THE STATE TENNIS TOURNAMENT MAY 31 AND JUNE 1 AT JOHNSON, IOWA, NEAR DES MOINES. THEY ARE JUNIOR COURTNEY ROMER AND SENIOR ALESHA NICKESON. YESTERDAY, THEY DEFEATED DUOS FROM WESTERN DUBUQUE, DAVENPORT ASSUMPTION AND CEDAR RAPIDS XAVIER.

AT THE STATE TRACK MEET THIS WEEK AT DES MOINES: ERIC MANSON TOOK 17TH IN THE LONG JUMP. LUKE PATTERSON 10TH IN THE SHOT PUT. THE DISTANCE MEDLEY RELAY TEAM TOOK 18TH. ON IT, BILLY KIRK, TREVOR MANGLER, ERIC MANON AND MITCH MCDERMOTT. THE 4 BY 400 RELAY TEAM TOOK 21ST, AND DID NOT QUALIFY FOR THE FINALS. ON THAT TEAM, TREVOR MANGLER, MITCH MCDERMOTT, ERIC MANSON AND RIED KEENEY. TOMORROW, MITCH COMPETES IN THE 1600 METER RUN AND TRISHA MILLER IN THE 1500 METER RUN.

A MAQUOKETA MAN, DON ECKELBERG, AGE 82, WAS INJURED AFTER HE BLACKED OUT AND HIT A CONSTRUCTION VEHICLE YESTERDAY AFTERNOON ON HIGHWAY 64 EAST OF MAQUOKETA. HE WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL IN MAQUOKETA.
HE WAS GOING EAST, BLACKED OUT AND HIT A DUMP TRUCK DRIVEN BY CHRISTOPHER OSTWINKLE, AGE 43, OF MAQUOKETA.

THE DUBUQUE RACING ASSOCIATION GAVE GRANTS THIS WEEK TOTALING OVER $2 MILLION DOLLARS. IN MAQUOKETA, GRANTS RECEIVED: BRIGGS ELEMENTARY, $1,648....CARDINAL ELEMENTARY, $3,687....MAQUOKETA CHAMBER OF COMMER,
