92 TODAY.
MARK WILLEY, AGE 54, OF MAQUOKETA, THIS MORNING WAS SENTENCED TO A TOTAL OF 35 YEARS IN PRISON FOR HIS ATTEMPT TO KILL HIS SISTER BACK IN APRIL. WHEN ASKED IF HE WANTED TO SAY SOMETHING...HE SPOKE FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES AND TOOK CREDIT FOR MANY MAQUOKETA PROJECTS THE PAST YEARS. THE JUDGE TOLD WILLEY "YOU ARE A DANGEROUS PERSON!' HE MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR PAROLE IN ABOUT 15 YEARS. HIS ATTORNEY SAID WILLEY WILL FILE AN APPEAL. SHERIFF RUSS KETTMAN TOOK WILLEY TO THE OAKDALE PROCESSING CENTER THIS AFTERNOON. WILL WAS ORDERED TO MAKE RESTITUTION FOR JAIL FEES, TO HIS SISTER, AND FOR COURT APPOINTED ATTORNEY FEES....A TOTAL OF OVER $18,000.
THE FAIR DREW 3,347 PEOPLE YESTERDAY, DOWN ABOUT 700 FROM THE RECORD THURSDAY LAST YEAR. A SHORT CLOUDBURST OF RAIN CAME HALFWAY THROUGH THE 75 MINUTE AARON TIPPIN SHOW, AND THE SHOW WENT ON DESPITE THE RAIN. THE STAGE AND MUCH OF THE GRANDSTAND HAS A ROOF. A 3-MINUTE FIREWORKS DISPLAY FOLLOWED THE SHOW AND IT SPOOKED SOME HORSES IN THE NEARBY HORSE SHOW. I SAW THE FIREWORKS AND THOUGH SHORT, WAS VERY NICE. MAQUOKETA PEOPLE WINNING $100 LAST NIGHT WERE: CRYSTAL KNIGHT, CHUCK BURNETT, AND AMY HUNTER.
TRUCK AND TRACTOR PULL TONIGHT AT THE FAIR. THE HEAT IS
DEFINITELY GOING TO HURT ATTENDANCE THIS WEEKEND. UP IN MID TO UPPER 90'S BOTH TOMORROW AND SUNDAY.
I MAY HAVE A SHORT REPORT SATURDAY AND SUNDAY.
HAVE A NICE WEEKEND.
DENNIS VOY
