TROY AND RAEANN THEIDE ARE CELEBRATING THEIR 15TH YEAR OF OWNING AND OPERATING THE HISTORIC DECKER HOTEL IN DOWNTOWN MAQUOKETA. AN OPEN HOUSE TODAY IS BEING HELD FOR CHAMBER MEMBERS AND FRIENDS.

THE NORTHEAST OF GOOSE LAKE BOY'S BASKETBALL TEAM WON LAST NIGHT AT THE STATE TOURNAMENT AND SO NOW THEY AND BELLEVUE MARQUETTE WILL CONTINUE PLAY IN THE TOURNAMENT THIS THURSDAY AFTERNOON. THEY ARE IN DIFFERENT CLASSES AT STATE.

KEVIN BOWMAN IS THE NEW HEAD FOOTBALL COACH FOR MAQUOKETA, EFFECTIVE THIS FALL. HE HAS BEEN THE SOPHOMORE COACH FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND ALSO TEACHES AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL AND IS ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL. HE WILL KEEP THOSE JOBS TOO. HE SUCCEEDS MARK HILLEBRAND WHO RETIRED THIS PAST FALL AFTER OVER 20 YEARS AS COACH, BUT WILL CONTINUE TEACHING.

THE BLEACHERS AT GOODENOW FIELD WILL BE REPLACED. THE STEEL STRUCTURE WILL BE KEPT, BUT ALL ELSE WILL BE NEW. ....AND WILL COST ABOUT $50,000 PLUS VOLUNTEER LABOR FOR PAINTING. THE WOOD PLANKS WILL BE REPLACED WITH ALUMINUM. AND ITEMS WILL NOT BE ABLE TO BE DROPPED FROM THE SEATS TO THE GROUND AS NOW. A SAFETY FEATURE.

AN 18 YEAR OLD ANDREW MAN, KRISTOPHER C. WILHELM, WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE OF A ONE VEHICLE ACCIDENT ABOUT 11 THIS MORNING ON THE 61 BYPASS NEAR THE SUMMIT STREET OVERPASS.
HIS CAR, AT HIGH RATE OF SPEED, HIT AN OVERPASS PILLAR. HE WAS ALONE INTHE CAR.

THE JACKSON COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS TODAY APPROVED NEXT YEAR'S BUDGET AT $4.5 MILLION. NO TAX INCREASE.

THE SCHOOL BOARD LAST NIGHT HIRED APRIL EVERDING BEIER AS HIGH SCHOOL LANGUAGE ARTS INSTRUCTOR. SHE'S A 1992 GRADUATE OF MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL. SHE HAS BEEN TEACHING ELSEWHERE IN IOWA AND WILL ALSO BE THE CHEERLEADING SPONSOR.

JAMES WEILAND, FORMERLY OF OTTER CREEK NORTH OF MAQUOKETA, AGE 92, DIED YESTERDAY. HE AND HIS BROTHER FARMED THE FAMILY FARM FOR 78 YEARS. HOW ABOUT THAT. HIS WIFE SURVIVES.
