51 TODAY, BUT RAIN AND COOLER WEATHER THIS WEEKEND.

THE MAQUOKETA CARDINAL WRESTLERS BEAT VINTON LAST NIGHT
AT DYERSVILLE, 45 TO 24. WINS FOR MAQUOKETA BY: CASEY STUART,
DARON FUGLSANG, AARON KOPPES, ANDREW KOPPES, JOSH BREEDEN,
ANDREW MCNAMEE AND DAN DUHME
AND,THE CARDINALS ALSO BEAT DYERSVILLE BECKMAN, 57 TO 18.
WINS BY: CASEY STUART, DARON FUGLSANG, TONY SCHILTZ, AARON HELZER, BILLY KIRK, AARON KOPPES, ANDREW KOPPES, BOBBY KIRK, ANDREW MCNAMEE, AND DAN DUHME.

A FREAK ACCIDENT YESTERDAY AFTERNOON RESULTED IN THREE VEHICLES BEING DAMAGED, BUT NO ONE WAS DRIVING. TWO PARKED VEHICLES,, ONE OWNED BY JAMES WYLIE OF MAQUOKETA AND THE OTHER BY JOHN MCAULIFFE OF DELMAR, WERE PARKED FACING NORTH ON ELIZA. A TRUCK WITH TRAILER ATTACHED WAS PARKED FACING NORTH AND OWNED BY ROY WARD OF MAQUOKETA. A TRACTOR WAS BEING LOADED ON THE TRAILER AND THE BACK OF WARD'S TRUCK. HOWEVER, THE TRACTOR WAS SO HEAVY THAT IT CAUSED THE WHEELS OF THE TRUCK TO LIFT UP AND THAT CAUSED THE TRUCK TO ROLL FORWARD INTO THE MCAULIFFE VEHICLE AND IT THEN HIT THE WYLIE VEHICLE AND SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS IN TOTAL DAMAGE. NO CHARGES FILED.

BECAUSE OF THE HIGHER COST OF ELECTRICITY AND NATURAL GAS,
THE CITY OF MAQUOKETA NEEDS TO MAKE UP A $125,000 DEFICIT IN THE 2005-2006 BUDGET. BUT, THE FINANCE COMMITTEE IS GOING TO RECOMMEND TO THE FULL COUNCIL TO TAKE MONEY OUT OF THE RESERVE FUND INSTEAD OF RAISING TAXES.

A 20 YEAR OLD MAN, MATTHEW SCHMIDT OF MAQUOKETA, WAS SENTENCED TO 30 DAYS IN JAIL, 28 SUSPENDED, ON CHARGES OF ASSAULT.
HE WAS FINED $96. SHERIFF DEPUTY ED CLARK SAID SCHMIDT HIT JOSH OSTERN IN THE HEAD WITH A PUMPKIN ON NOV. 20TH IN RURAL MAQUOKETA.

THE MAQUOKETA GIRLS AND BOYS BASKETBALL TEAMS PLAY VINTON TONIGHT.

ERIC BAYLES, GRANDSON OF DOTTIE BAYLES OF MAQUOKETA AND DONNA AND ALDEN BROWN OF MAQUOKETA, COMPLETED 12 WEEKS OF BASIC TRAINING AT THE MARINE CORP RECRUIT DEPOT IN SAND DIEGO EARLIER THIS MONTH. HE IS NOW MARINE CORPS PRIVATE ERIC BAYLES.
HIS DAD IS MARK BAYLES, WHO IS AN ELECTRICIAN OUT EAST.
