84 in Maquoketa today...beautiful day. Rain in forecast tomorrow and Wednesday.

The murder trial resumes tomorrow. The trail may not cost Jackson County as much money as the original estimate of $20,000. Will be somewhere over $10,000.

Saturday night, a Maquoketa man, John Ross Davis, age 41, was charged with running his vehicle into a parked car on Emma Court. $1,500 damage to his car and $2,000 to the car belonging to a Morrison, Illinois man.

Yesterday, took in the 50th Anniversary of Ronann's Floral Shop on West Platt Street. Nice event.
There was a tent for visitors and good food.... burgers off a big grill, with baked beans, and cake and
a pictoral history of the business started by Ron and Ann Meade, both deceased. One of their children, Wendy Scott now owns the business after working for her parents many years. Her right hand assistant is her husband, Dennis Scott. He's parttime help though, as he works for the "buildings and grounds"
department of Maquoketa Community Schools. They have done lots of remodling and redecorating
the last few years and the place looks great. Here's to at least 25 more years for a well run, longtime
successful Maquoketa business....locally owned and operated.

Maquoketa police are investigating some thefts. Tools were taking from the construction firm at the new truck stop goingup at the South edge of town.
Craig Flenker reported someone broke into his car Saturday night and a few things were taken.
David Voy reported someone rummaged through two vehicles at his address on South 4th Street. Nothing appears to have been taken.
And, Mardonna Varner on South Jones said someone ran over her mailbox and post Sunday.

The Maquoketa City Council meets tonight.

Dr. Walt Sturtz, DVM, age 61, of Maquoketa, died unexpectedly Friday morning at his home in Maquoketa.
He has been practicing veterinary medicine in Maquoketa since 1969.

Have a good week.
