SUNNY, WINDY AND HOT TODAY..HIGH OF 79. BUT, TOMORROW, BACK DOWN TO THE 50'S.
SIX MAQUOKETA YOUTH, AGES 11-13, WERE CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED BURGLARY IN THE 3RD DEGREE. POLICE SAY THEY THREW A CEMENT BRICK THROUGH THE WINDOW OF A VEHICLE PARKED AT BRAD DEERY MOTORS AT 7:12 LAST NIGHT.
DAMAGE TO VEHICLE, $1,000. THE SIX WERE RELEASED TO THEIR PARENTS.
THE MAQUOKETA STATE BANK GAVE MORE MONEY RECENTLY TO THE NEW OHNWARD FINE ARTS CENTER AUDITORIUM ON EAST PLATT IN MAQUOKETA. THE MAQUOKETA AREA FOUNDATION ALSO GAVE ANOTHER $25,000. GARY DREW, THE MAN BEHIND THIS NEW FACILITY, SAID THAT $100,000 FINISHES THE FUNDING FOR THE CENTER, BEING BUILDT ON EAST PLATT STREET PRIMARILY BY VOLUNTEERS.
DREW SAID THE ENTIRE PROJECT IS COMING IN UNDER $900,000. A BIG PAVED PARKING LOT WAS FINISHED A COUPLE WEEKS AGO. NOW THE SEATS WILL BE ARRIVING SOON AND INSTALLED, AND WILL TOTAL 841. THE SEAT DRIVE CONTINUES WITH CITIZENS BEING ASKED TO DONATE $250 PER SEAT AND THE PERSON'S NAME WILL BE ON A PLATE ON THE SEAT AS BEING THE DONAR OF THAT SEAT. THE AUDITORIUM WILL BE USED FOR THE FIRST TIME ON DECEMBER 18TH FOR THE ANNUAL HIGH SCHOOL ADVENT SING, WHICH THIS, THE 50TH YEAR, WILL ALSO FEATURE MANY ALUMNI SINGERS. GARY DREW ALSO TOLD KMAQ THAT THERE IS AN ENDOWMENT FUND FOR THE CENTER AND THAT IT ALREADY HAS AROUND $200,000 IN IT AT THIS TIME , AND THAT THE ENDOWMENT FUND (SPENDING ONLY THE INTEREST) MONEY WILL BE USED FOR THE UPKEEP OF THE BUILDING OVER THE YEARS TO COME.
A FORMER MAQUOKETA AREA RESIDENT, ELMER DUHME DIED THIS WEEK AT MARION, IOWA. HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE, BEULAH AND A DAUGHTER NANCY AND A SON FRED.
MAQUOKETA PLAYS FOOTBALL AT DEWITT TONIGHT TO END THE SEASON.
I'LL HAVE THE SCORE HERE TOMORROW.
HAVE A NICE WEEKEND.

ANOTHER CLOUDY DAY AND COOL.
A MAQUOKETA WOMAN WAS ARRESTED ON A WARRANT THIS WEEK ON CHARGES OF SEXUAL ABUSE IN THE SECOND DEGREE. KAYLEIGH HEATH, 18, FACES THE CHARGES IN COURT, AND IS BEING HELD IN THE CLINTON COUNTY JAIL ON
$32,500 CASH BOND. A PUBLIC DEFENDER FROM MUSCATINE WILL BE NAMED AS HER ATTORNEY. MAQUOKETA POLICE SAID SHE IS ACCUSED OF HAVING SEXUAL INTERCOURSE WITH A CHILD UNDER 12 IN JUNE.
IN COURT NEWS: JEREMY MCDEVITT, 31, OF MAQUOKETA, WAS CHARGED WITH DOMESTIC ABUSE FOR CHOKING AND HITTING HIS GIRLFRIEND LAST NIGHT ABOUT 11 AT 219 S. MATTESON STREET IN MAQUOKETA.
THE MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL ADVENT SING WILL CELEBRATE ITS 50TH ANNIVERSARY THIS YEAR WITH A PUBLIC GRAND OPENING PERFORMANCE AT THE NEW ONWARD FINE ARTS AUDITORIUM ON EAST PLATT STREET...ON DECEMBER 18TH. IN ADDITION TO THE CURRENT MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL PERFORMERS, ALUMNI FROM 1955 UNTIL TODAY WILL BE ASKED TO JOIN IN. THE EVENT WAS STARTED IN 1955BY JANICE FARNUM AND SHE LED THE EVENT FOR 30 YEARS. PAMELA CRAWFORD NOW LEADS THE VOCAL MUSIC DEPARTMENT AND IS CELEBRATING HER 20TH YEAR WITH THE PROGRAM. A SOUP AND SANDWICH SUPPER WILL BE HELD ATTHE HIGH SCHOOL THE DAY OF THE CONCERT, FROM 4:30 UNTI 6:30 P.M. PRIOR TO THE CONCERT IN THE NEW 830-PLUS AUDITORIUM. DOORS WILL OPEN AT 6:45 FOR A MEMORY WALK AND THE CONCERT WILL BEGIN AAT 7:30 P.M. $5 FOR ADULTS, $3 FOR STUDENTS.
YES, I AGREE, IT WAS NOT VERY NICE OF THE BOSTON RED SOX TO DEFEAT THE CARDINALS 4 STRAIGHT GAMES. BUT, THEY WERE THE BEST TEAM.
ONE THOUGHT: FROM NOW ON, THERE WILL BE, OR MAYBE SHOULD BE,
AN ALL OUT EFFORT TO WIN THE ALL STAR GAME IN JULY. THE TEAM THAT WINS, GETS HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE FOR THE WORLD SERIES. IF THE NATIONAL LEAGUE HAD WON THE ALL STAR GAME THIS PAST JULY, THE WORLD SERIES WOULD HAVE STARTED IN ST. LOUIS INSTEAD OF BOSTON AND THE CARDINALS WOULD HAVE HAD THE BEST CHANCE, AS BOSTON DID, TO WIN EARLY AT HOME AND GET OFF TO A GOOD START. AND IF THE SERIES WOULD HAVE WENT THE FULL 7 GAMES, FOUR OF THE SEVEN WOULD HAVE BEEN PLAYED IN BOSTON, A BOSTON ADVANTAGE.
THAT ALL FOR NOW...THANKS FOR CHECKING IN.

Mostly cloudy and 64 today for a high.
School Board meeting Monday night.
Leslie Lawson, new President of the Maquoketa School Board, is the Maquoketa Rotary Citizen of the Week. Picture and story at www.maquoketa-rotary.org
Good possibility Sage Rosenfelts, formerly of Maquoekta, will play, maybe start, this Sunday for the Miami Dolphins as their #1 and #2 quarterbacks were injured yesterday.
The new street in front of the new Taco Johns is finished and looks great.
Good addition out there between Dutrac and Taco Johns.
Have a good week.
