SUNNY, WINDY AND OVER 80 TODAY.

JUST GOT BACK FROM HAVING A CAVITY FILLED BY DR. LEO BIEHL IN MY ONLY REMAINING WISDOM TOOTH.
PIECE OF CAKE. LEO HAS BEEN IN MAQUOKETA SINCE 1959. I CAME IN 1958 AND MY FIRST VISIT TO HIM WAS IN MAY OF 1960....HAD A CAVITY FILLED FOR $8.00. HE IS WORKING TWO DAYS A WEEK NOW, IN THE NEW BEAUTIFUL
OFFICE OPENED LAST YEAR BY DR. BUDDY ATIENZA. WHERE THE PASTIME THEATRE WAS MANY YEARS AGO.
LEO AND HIS WIFE LOIS HAVE ALSO OWNED THE DAIRY QUEEN SINCE 1974....BOUGHT IT 30 YEARS AGO. THEY
JUST RETURNED FROM A TRIP TO SPAIN WITH DAUGHTER, SON-IN-LAW AND TWO GRANDKIDS. THEY WERE TRAVELING ON A TRAIN IN SPAIN AT THE EXACT TIME OF THE HORIBLE BOMING THERE. BEFORE THEIR DESTINATION, THEIR TRAIN WAS STOPPED, AND THEY HAD TO TRANSFER TO ANOTHER TRAIN AND WENT BACK TO WHERE THEY STARTED. ANYWAY, HE SAID THEY HAD A GREAT TIME IN SPAIN. YES, WE ALSO TALKED ABOUT THE ST. LOUIS CARDINALS AS HE ALSO HAS BEEN A BIG CARDINAL FAN FOR MOST OF HIS LIFE. THE CARDINALS ARE ONLY PLAYING 500 BALL THESE DAYS.....BUT THEY'LL GET BETTER.

FORMER JACKSON COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPUTY, DICK WARD, ANNOUNCED TODAY THAT HE WILL BE A CANDIDATE FOR COUNTY SHERIFF, RUNNING FOR THE OFFICE AS AN INDEPENDENT IN THE NOVEMBER ELECTION. SHERIFF RUSS KETTMAN, DEMOCRAT, IS SEEKING RE-ELECTION. THERE IS NO REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE. HE SAID HE IS RUNNING BECAUSE HE WANTS TO TAKE THE POLITICS OUT OF THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE AND LAW ENFORCEMENT. WARD SERVED AS A DEPUTY AND MAQUOKETA POLICE OFFICER FOR MORE THAN 30 YEARS, LEAVING THE SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT LAST YEAR.
WARD SAID HE WILL NOT SEEK A RAISE IF HE IS ELECTED AND SAID HE WOULD LIKE TO SEE A REDUCTION IN THE NUMBER OF STAFF AND DEPUTIES. HE WANTS DEPUTIES TO LIVE IN VARIOUS QUADRANTS OF THE COUNTY AND PATROL IN THAT AREA WHERE THEY LIVE. HE SAID MOST OF THE DEPUTIES NOW LIVE IN MAQUOKETA AND THE BELLEVUE AREA.

NO TIME FOR MORE, SORRY.

DENNIS VOY
