SUNNY TODAY, BUT COOL.
A NEWLY REMODELED BELLEVUE BUSINESS WAS EXTENSIVELY DAMAGED BY FIRE LAST NIGHT.
THE "RIVER BOTTOM CAFE" ON SOUTH RIVERVIEW. WHEN FIRMEN ARRIVED AT 10 P.M., FLAMES WERE SHOOTING FROM THE KITCHEN AREA. A PASSER-BY SAW THE FLAMES AND CALLED 911. THE BUSINESS IS OWNED BY RONALD HEISTER, WHO LIVE NEXT DOOR TO THE RESTAURANT. FIRE CHIEF CHRIS ROLING ESTIMATED THE DAMAGE AT $80,000 TO THE RESTAURANT WHICH WAS FORMERLY KNOWN AS THE "POINT PLEASANT RESORT".
THE RESTAURANT WAS OPEN UNTIL 6 LAST NIGHT. IT HAS BEEN REMODELED THE LAST COUPLE YEARS AND IS POPULAR WITH MISSISSIPPI RIVER FISHERMEN AS WELL AS LOCAL RESIDENTS. I ASSUME HEISTER WILL MAKE REPAIRS AND RE-OPEN.
A VANDALISM INCIDENT REPORTED TO MAQUOKETA POLICE. BRANDY SHEPARD OF 207 E. MAPLE SAID SOMEONE THREW SOMETHING THROUGH THE FRONT WINDOW OF HER HOME. SHE SAW TWO MALES RUNNING FROM THE HOME TUESDAY NIGHT.
NO BIRTHS OR DEATHS.
KMAQ WILL BROADCAST THE LUTHERAN CHURCH SERVICE "live" at 6 TONIGHT AND THE METHODIST SERVICE AT 9 TONIGHT....WITH SIGN-OFF AS ALWAYS AT 10.
AND...WE'LL BE ON-THE-AIR CHRISTMAS DAY AS ALWAYS. ITS AT THIS TIME OF THE YEAR, RADIO ISN'T THE BEST KIND OF BUSINESS TO BE IN.
UNLESS SOMETHING MAJOR HAPPENS, THERE WILL BE NO DAILY REPORT TOMORROW THOUGH.
THANKS TO DAILY REPORT READER ANN DAHLEN FOR YOUR EMAIL CHRISTMAS GREETING...WHEREVER YOU LIVE.
NANCY AND I WILL BE AT THE HOME OF CHARLIE AND THE KIDS TONIGHT...THEN CHURCH AT 11...AND THE ENTIRE FAMILY WILL BE AT OUR HOUSE FOR CHRISTMAS DINNER TOMORROW.
HOPE ALL OF YOU HAVE A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!
DENNIS VOY
