TODAY WAS THE DEDICATION DAY OF "GABLES" THE DOWNTOWN ART PIECE, DESIGNED BY MAQUOKETA NATIVE AND A VERY RESPECTED ARCHITECT DANIEL CAVEN. IT WAS A VERY WINDY DAY FOR McTOBERFEST, BUT THERE WAS A NICE
TURNOUT ANYWAY FOR THE EVENT.
DANIEL CAVEN TALKED BEFORE THE RIBBON CUTTING. HE WAS HAPPY TO
SEE "GABLES" IN PLACE AND SAID IT HAPPENED BECAUSE SCHUELLER AND
SONS RECONSTRUCTION TOOK ON THE JOB OF BUILDING "GABLES". THEY
ALSO BUILDT THE KIOSK NEXT TO THE ART PIECE. THE FOUR SIDES OF IT
BELOW.
"GABLES" WILL BE LIKED BY MANY. NOT LIKED BY SOME.
I LIKE IT!
IT IS ONE OF ONLY 16 IN THE STATE.
IT COST MAQUOKETA NOTHING.
IT WILL BRING VISITORS TO MAQUOKETA WHO WILL TAKE PHOTOS TO SHOW OTHERS.
IT WILL GET STATE-WIDE PUBLICITY.

ReplyDeleteCreatively this MAY have been potentially a GOOD Sculpture for downtown.
ReplyDeleteHowever, NOW, it looks to be anything but tacky.
It sure looks like its unfinished and thrown together quick and cheap and crappy.
Unfortunate for the maquoketa community (in my opinion)
