THE NEW CANOPY, INSTALLED LAST WEEK, LOOKS GREAT!
AFTER 2 YEARS OF WORK, THE JOB IS FINISHED!
THE WHOLE FRONT OF BUILDING WAS RE-DONE!
FOR MANY YEARS, THE HOME OF OSTERHAUS PHARMACY AND
THE GREEN MILL.
CLICK-ON PHOTO TO MAKE IT LARGER.
A BEAUTIFUL BUILDING
IN THE MIDDLE OF MAIN!
NEW GIFT STORE ON THE CORNER, TWO DOORS NORTH OF THE THEATRE...IS OPEN. CHECK IT OUT. I DO NOT KNOW THE NAME OF THE BUSINESS OWNER. THE
BUILDING IS LOCALLY OWNED BY SOMEONE ELSE.
THE "FINDERS KEEPERS" STORE NEXT TO (NORTH) OF THEATRE IS CLOSING DECEMBER 31ST.
THAT STORE FRONT IS NOW AVAILABLE TO RENT. IT IS SMALL, ABOUT 30 BY 30 FEET WITH BIG FRONT WINDOWS AND IT'S A GOOD LOCATION FOR A SMALL BUSINESS. IN ANY BUSINESS...."LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION" IS ONE BIG FACTOR FOR SUCCESS. IT RENTS FOR $475 A MONTH, WHICH INCLUDES HEAT/AIR AND WATER. DOES NOT INCLUDE ELECTRICITY. TAKE THE WATER MINIMUM AT $45 AND HEAT/AIR AVERAGE OF $90 OFF OF $475 AND THE ACTUAL RENT ALONE IS $340 A MONTH.
UPSTAIRS OVER THE "FINDERS KEEPERS" STORE, IS A SMALL APARTMENT, FOR
ONE PERSON, FOR RENT. $325 A MONTH. IT OVERLOOKS MAIN STREET.
THERE IS A COIN-OP LAUNDROMAT DOWN THE HALL AND A SMALL STORE ROOM THAT CAN BE RENTED FOR $20 A MONTH.
FOR THE DOWNSTAIRS STORE FRONT, THE UPSTAIRS APARTMENT OR THE STORE ROOM, THE PHONE NUMBER TO CALL IS 563-212-3286.

BONNIE MITCHELL, CURATOR OF BOTH JACKSON COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY
MUSEUMS IN MAQUOKETA SENT ME THIS PHOTO TODAY OF THE NARROW GUAGE
COMBO RAILROAD CAR THAT WAS BUILT THIS YEAR BY THE DEPOT GUYS.
IT IS IN THE PARKING LOT OF THE CLINTON ENGINES MUSEUM AND THEY
DECORATED IT FOR CHRISTMAS AS YOU CAN SEE. NOTE THE TWO R'S. THE INTERIOR OF IT WILL BE COMPLETED AND FURNISHED THIS SPRING AND THEN THE CAR WILL BE MOVED AND PLACED ON NARROW GUAGE TRACKS NEXT TO THE
LAMOTTE NARROW GUAGE DEPOT A SHORT DISTANCE AWAY. THOSE DEPOT
GUYS HAVE DONE A FANTASTIC JOB ON THE CAR AND IT WILL BE NICE NEXT
YEAR TO SEE IT ALONG SIDE THE FANTASTIC DEPOT.
THE MAQUOKETA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE SPONSORED A HOME DECORATING
CONTEST AND ANNOUNCED THE WINNER THIS WEEK. THE VERL AND ANITA
HOWELL HOME WON THE $50 CASH PRIZE FOR THEIR HOME AT 111 NORTH
VERMONT STREET. VERL WAS IN THIS MORNING AND ASKED ME TO THANK
EVERYONE THAT VOTED FOR HIS AND ANITA'S CHRISTMAS DISPLAY. HE SAID
THEY BOTH DID THE DECORATING. THANKS VERL AND ANITA FOR YOUR
GREAT FRONT YARD.
OTHER ENTRIES THIS YEAR...
DENNIS BOWLING AT 111 WEST LOCUST STREET
JIM AND LAURIE STEINES AT 207 S. PROSPECT STREET
ASHLEY AND ART WING AT 912 COUNTRY CLUB DRIVE
R0N AND CHRIS SCHAEFER AT 14710 69TH STREET
HOPE YOU GET A CHANCE TO SEE ALL 5 FRONT YARDS.
AND BE SURE TO VISIT SWAGOSA AROUND THE GOLF COURSE. LOTS OF NEATLY
DECORATED HOMES. ONE ESPECIALLY NICE....YOU TUNE IN AN FM FREQUENCY
ON YOUR CAR RADIO AND THE MUSIC BLENDS WITH THE COLORFUL MOVING LIGHTS IN FRONT OF THE HOME. A HIGH-TECH CHRISTMAS DISPLAY.
LEFT TO RIGHT, DOUG MELVOLD, PASTOR JEFF DIDISMAN AND JAKE BICKFORD
WITH THE TRUCKLOAD OF PEANUT BUTTER THAT WAS COLLECTED HERE AT
KMAQ DURING DECEMBER. THERE ARE 370 JARS ON THE PICKUP IN A DOZEN OR MORE BOXES. THANKS FOR MAKING KMAQ'S 2ND ANNUAL PEANUT BUTTER DRIVE FOR THE MAQUOKETA COMMUNITY CUPBOARD A BIG SUCCESS.

THE 2ND ANNUAL KMAQ CHRISTMAS PEANUT BUTTER DRIVE FOR THE MAQUOKETA
COMMUNITY CUPBOARD IS OVER.
IT HAS BEEN A BIG SUCCESS.
WE COLLECTED AROUND 220 JARS LAST YEAR.
WE SET A GOAL FOR 250 THIS YEAR.
AND WE ENDED UP WITH 370 JARS.
JAKE BICKFORD AND DOUG MELVOLD WILL TAKE THEM WITH JAKE'S PICKUP
TO THE NEW MAQUOKETA COMMUNITY CUPBOARD BUILDING TOMORROW WHERE MOST WILL BE DISTRIBUTED FRIDAY MORNING DURING THE WEEKLY REGULAR DISTRIBUTION HOURS. ONE JAR PER PERSON OR FAMILY. THE SIZE WILL BE DETERMINED BY THE NUMBER IN HOUSEHOLD. ONE PERSON WILL GET A SMALL JAR AND A LARGE FAMILY WILL GET ONE OF THE VERY LARGE JARS AND THERE WILL BE SOME LEFT OVER FOR DISTRIBUTION IN JANUARY, AND MAYBE EVEN FEBRUARY.
IF YOU DONATED....THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
A LIST OF DONERS IS ON THE KMAQ WEB SITE AT WWW.KMAQ.COM
IF WE FORGOT YOUR NAME, EMAIL ME AND I WILL ADD IT.
A HOUSE WAS TAKEN DOWN JUST WEST OF THE MAQUOKETA LIBRARY. UNTIL
NOW, NO ONE COULD GET A GOOD VIEW OF THE BACK OF THE LIBRARY
BUILDING. SO, HERE IT IS. NOTE THE MIDDLE CURVED WALL WITH THE
FOUR WINDOWS OF THIS CARNEGIE LIBRARY, THAT FEATURES NEOCLASSICAL
ARCHITECTURE.

VOLUNTEERS KEEP RINGING THE SALVATION ARMY BELL ALL DAY LONG AT WAL MART AND FAREWAY. KIND OF KEEP IN MIND THAT $5 TODAY PROBABLY EQUALS $1 OF YEARS GONE BY.
I MADE A MISTAKE LAST WEEK. THIS PILE OF WOOD AT GOODENOW FIELD
IS NOT THE TICKET BOOTH. IT IS THE SMALL FENCE THAT HELD THE SCHEDULE OF GAMES FOR THE SEASON. THE TICKET BOOTH WAS MOVED TO STORAGE, IS
NOT OLD AND IN GOOD CONDITION AND WILL BE BROUGHT BACK.
THIS IS THE NEW SPIDER-MAN OPENING EVERYWHERE THIS FRIDAY INCLUDING
AT THE VOY THEATRE. IT IS ANIMATED. REVIEWERS SAY IT MAY BE THE BIGGEST
SPIDER-MAN YET.
ANN PLAYED AGAIN FOR THE COOKIE WALK AND SOUP SUPPER AT THE CLINTON
ENGINES MUSEUM TUESDAY NIGHT. BIG TURN-OUT AND THEY SOLD MOST OF THE
COOKES.
TIME TO GET SERIOUS. CHRISTMAS IS GETTING CLOSE.

THE MAQUOKETA BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM IS RANKED 2ND THIS WEEK IN THE
3-A STANDINGS, WITH THEIR 5 AND 0 RECORD.
THE CARDS HOST MT. VERNON TONIGHT. FIRST GAME AT 6 AND BOYS GAME
AT AROUND 7:30. BOTH GAMES ON KMAQ TONIGHT. THE GIRLS HAVE A 4 AND 1 RECORD.
TOOK THIS PHOTO LAST WEEK...AND I THINK IT WAS IN LOWDEN, WHERE WE WERE
AT THE LEGION FISH FRY.
THE OTHER DAY I POSTED A PHOTO HERE OF AN OLD HOUSE BEING TORN DOWN
BEHIND THE LIBRARY.
TODAY, I TOOK THESE TWO PHOTOS OF HOW THE EMPLY LOT LOOKS.
THE HOUSE BELONGED TO BILL AND BARB BOWMAN. THE HOUSE TO LEFT
THEY OWN AND LIVE IN. JUST TO THE NORTH OF THEIR HOUSE IS A SMALL APARTMENT BUILDING. TAKE AWAY THEIR HOUSE AND THE APARTMENTS
AND IT MIGHT BE A GOOD PLACE FOR A NEW JAIL. THE COURT HOUSE IS JUST
NORTH OF THE APARTMENTS.
SOME NASTY, BUT NOT REAL BAD, WEATHER IS IN THE FORECAST FOR TOMORROW AND TOMORROW NIGHT IN MAQUOKETA. SOME SNOW, ICE AND SLEET.
SOMEONE FORWARDED THE BELOW.
