BACK TO THE FUTURE
NO..THIS IS NOT A 2016 PHOTO...THERE IS KMAQ... AT LEFT.
THIS PHOTO TAKEN TODAY....2017
THE SEWER PIPE FROM THE LAW OFFICES BUILDING, TO UNDER THE
STREET LARGE PIPE, HAS NOT BEEN DOING ITS JOB RIGHT. NOT ENOUGH
SLANT TO UNDER THE STREET. TO AVOID CONSTANT PIPE-ROOTING..
WORK STARTED TODAY ON CORRECTING THE PROBLEM.
BUT..THAT MEANT SAWING, JACKHAMMERING, AND DIGGING UP
MAQUOKETA'S NEW STREET AND SIDEWALK NEXT TO IT.
ABOVE, THE STREET PORTION OF THE JOB AND BELOW THE SIDEWALK PORTION.
THE WORK WILL BE FINISHED NEXT TUESDAY AND NORTH MAIN FROM KMAQ SOUTH TO PLATT WILL BE OPEN AGAIN WEDNESDAY MORNING.
THEY SAY YOU WILL THEN HARDLY KNOW THE WORK WAS DONE....ESPECIALLY AFTER A FEW DAYS WHEN THE CONCRETE DRYS COMPLETELY AND EVENTUALLY MATCHES THE OLDER PORTIONS. WATCH FOR A FOLLOW-UP PHOTO NEXT WEEK WHEN THE WORK IS DONE.
DURING THE SUMMER, EVERY TUESDAY NIGHT IS
"TUNES IN TOWN" NIGHT AT THE DEWITT DOWNTOWN PARK, FREE, AND FROM 6 TO 8.
THEY DO PASS A HAT FOR THE BAND. ABOVE,
THE NEW BANDSTAND WITH MAQUOKETA'S BLACK VELVET BAND. THEY WERE THE GUEST
BAND LAST NIGHT AND THERE IS A NEW BAND
EACH WEEK.
LEFT TO RIGHT: DAVE MANNING WITH A FLUTE AND OTHER INSTRUMENTS. DALE KILBURG ON THE HARMONICA. CHUCK JORGENSEN ON THE
GUITAR. DAN CARAWAY ON THE MANDOLIN.
CURT LICHTER ON BASE. THEY ALL SING.
THEY ARE GOOD AND THE PEOPLE ENJOYED THEM AND WHEN ASKED BY THE ANNOUCER IF THEY SHOULD COME BACK NEXT YEAR....THE
RESPONSE WAS POSITIVELY "YES".
BIG BIG CROWD.
ABOVE, TWO OF SEVERAL SEATING AREAS. I'D
SAY THEY HAD SEVERAL HUNDRED LAST NIGHT.
MANY ENJOYED PIZZA SLICES AND POP THAT WAS ON SALE....AND ENJOYED THE GREAT WEATHER.
THE BAND WILL PLAY THE FINAL SUMMER CONCERT IN THE GREEN SPACE IN DOWNTOWN
MAQUOKETA ON SUNDAY NIGHT, SEPTEMBER
10TH. PUT IT ON YOUR CALENDAR.
STARTS FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE VOY THEATRE.
NANCY AND I BOTH SAW IT AT A MOVIE CONVENTION IN MAQUOKETA AND WE LIKED IT.
SHAWN, LONNA AND JACOB SAW IT LAST WEEK
IN BETTENDORF AND THEY LIKED IT. I'M PRETTY
SURE YOU WILL LIKE IT TOO. LINDA FROM THE Q.C. TIMES SELDOM GIVE 3 1/2 STARS, BUT SHE
DID FOR MEGAIN.
THE MAQUOKETA CARDINAL BOYS LOST AGAIN
LAST NIGHT TO NORTHEAST, 9 TO 5. IT HAS BEEN QUITE AWHILE SINCE A CARDINAL TEAM HAS HAD A BAD YEAR LIKE THIS....THINK THEY HAVE ONLY WON 1 OR MAYBE 2 GAMES. BUT EXPERIENCE
CURES MATTERS AND THEY WILL BE BETTER
NEXT SUMMER.
THE GIRLS SEASON HAS NOT BEEN TOO GOOD EITHER, BUT THEY HAVE HAD A FEW OR MORE WINS, INCLUDING LAST NIGHT BEATING NORTHEAST 3 TO 2.
89 IN MAQUOKETA TOMORROW!
DENNIS VOY
