SATURDAY DAILY REPORT

IT IS VERY WINDY AND SUNNY IN MAQUOKETA TODAY.
THE HIGH WILL BE IN THE UPPER 40'S.

A LONGTIME MAQUOKETA BUSINESS CLOSED IT'S DOOR.    JIM KARABIN
TOLD KMAQ YESTERDAY THAT HE HAS CLOSED K-D-L COMPUTERS AND
IS RETIRING.   HE HAS OPERATED THE USED COMPUTER AND ACCESSORIES
BUSINESS IN MAQUOKETA FOR 25 YEARS.     HIS WIFE IS LEE KARABIN AND
SHE IS THE JACKSON COUNTY ASSESSOR AND THEY HAVE 3 DAUGHTERS.
WHEN HE FIRST GOT INTO THE BUSINESS, COMPUTERS WERE 3 PIECES,
THE COMPUTER ITSELF AND ATTACHED TO IT, A PRINTER AND MONITOR.
THE BUILDING IS FOR SALE.   IT IS 11 FOOT WIDE AND AROUND 100 LONG AND
THERE IS A PARKING SPACE AT THE REAR.    ANYONE INTERESTED IN
BUYING THE BUILDING CAN CALL JIM AT 563-212-4770.    THE PRICE IS LOW.

WORKERS ARE WORKING TODAY ON MAIN STREET IN FRONT OF THE POST
OFFICE.   THIS MORNING, THEY ALSO UNLOADED PIPE THAT GETS USED
UNDER THE NEW STREET.
I HAVE HAD MANY COMMENTS ON THE SANBORN BUILDING IN DOWNTOWN
MAQUOKETA THAT I OWN....THE 3 STORY BUILDING NEXT TO THE THEATRE.
THE VOY 3 AUDITORIUM IS IN IT AND THERE IS A BEAUTY SHOP UP FRONT.
COMMENTS HAVE COME AFTER  IT WAS FEATURED IN MY DAILY REPORT AND IN THE MAQUOKETA SENTINEL-PRESS.    HERE IS ANOTHER PHOTO OF
IT, SHOWING IT WITH AWNINGS.    AND I FOUND OUT THAT IT WAS BUILDT
FOR $15,000 AND OPENED IN 1896.   MR. SANBORN PUT HIS GROCERY
AND CROCKERY BUSINESS IN IT.    AND THE JOLES PLUMBING BUSINESS
WAS IN THE BASEMENT, WITH AN OUTSIDE STAIRWAY IN THE FRONT
LEADING DOWN TO IT.     SANBORN WAS A 3-TERM MAYOR OF MAQUOKETA.
AT ONE TIME IS WAS THE HOME OF THE ORPHEUM THEATRE AND IN
THE 50'S FOR A SHORT TIME, THE HOME OF THE CHIEF THEATRE.
THERE IS STILL A BIG LODGE ROOM ON THE THIRD FLOOR WITH AN
OPEN STAIRWAY LEADING FROM THE 2ND TO 3RD FLOOR.   THE RAINBOW
GIRLS HAD THEIR MEETINGS UP ON THE 3RD FLOOR.
THE AD FOR SANBORN WAS IN THE 1897 JACKSON COUNTY FAIR PREMIUM
BOOK...

HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND.

DENNIS VOY
