TUESDAY DAILY REPORT

ABOUT A HALF-INCH OF SNOW OVERNIGHT BROUGHT OUT SNOW PLOWS AND SHOVELS THIS MORNING.   AND SALT FOR ICEY SIDEWALKS.
IT HAD BEEN AWHILE SINCE OUR LAST SNOWFALL.    THEN TODAY WAS MOSTLY CLOUDY AND WE HAD A HIGH OF 27.     TONIGHT, CLOUDY AND 15.    TOMORROW, PARTLY SUNNY AND 31. THURSDAY PARTLY SUNNY AND 36.     FRIDAY PARTLY SUNNY AND 37. SATURDAY, PARTLY SUNNY AND 41.    WE'LL SEE MORE SNOW MELT THIS WEEKEND.

THE MAQUOKETA SCHOOL DISTRICT WILL BEGIN  AN INFORMATIONAL
CAMPAIGN ON PLANS FOR THE MAQUOKETA MIDDLE SCHOOL IN MID-FEBRUARY.   MEETINGS AND TOURS WILL START AROUND FEBRUARY 16TH AND CONTINUE UP UNTIL THE SPECIAL ELECTION DATE OF APRIL 5TH.
THE DISTRICT IS SEEKING APPROVAL FOR ABOUT A $14-MILLION BOND
ISSUE TO MAKE IMPROVEMENTS AND ADDITIONS TO THE CURRENT MIDDLE SCHOOL.

WHILE ON THE KMAQ "JUST TALK" SHOW THIS MORNING, SUPT. CHRIS HOOVER SAID 11 MEMBERS OF THE CLASS OF 2016 AND MAYBE MORE WILL GRADUATE IN MAY WITH ASSOCIATE OF ART DEGREES EARNED WHILE IN HIGH SCHOOL AT CLINTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE.   THIS WOULD BE UP 4 FROM LAST  YEAR'S CLASS.

THE NAME OF THE  WOMAN THAT DIED IN AN APARTMENT FIRE LAST FRIDAY IN DEWITT WAS GIVEN TO THE PRESS TODAY.   SHE IS JANET MARIE CAMPBELL, AGE 67.    AN AUTOPSY WAS PERFORMED AND THE EXAMINER
DETERMINED THE CAUSE OF DEATH TO BE SMOKE AND SOOT INHALATION AND THERMAL INJURIES.

MAQUOKETA POLICE OFFICER JAYSON HEIAR INVESTIGATED A 2-CAR
ACCIDENT SUNDAY AFTERNOON INVOLVING KENNETH WEUSTE, 73, OF
MAQUOKETA AND KELLEN LEE, AGE 24, OF TEXAS.    BOTH VEHICLES WERE
TRAVELING WEST ON HIWAY 64 AND WEUSTE TURNED LEFT INTO THE
THEISEN'S STORE AND LEE MADAE AN ILLEGAL PASS ON THE LEFT AND
STRUCK THE MAQUOKETA VEHICLE.      WEUSTE'S 2008 JEEP
RECEIVED $3,000 IN DAMAGES...NO INJURIES...AND NO CITATIONS
WERE FILED.

CLINTON COUNTY DEPUTY MARK MAYMENS INVESTIGATED A SINGLE CAR ACCIDENT SUNDAY EVENING INVOLVING REBECKA ARAGON, AGE 22, OF
MAQUOKETA.  SHE WAS GOING SOUTH ON HIGHWAY 61, LOST CONTROL,
AND ENTERED THE DITCH.   $6,000 DAMAGE TO HER 2011 FORD.   NO
INJURIES AND ARAGON WAS CHARGED WITH FAILURE TO MAINTAIN
CONTROL.

AT "BROWN BAG LUNCH" DAY TODAY AT THE CLINTON ENGINES MUSEUM,
SPONSORED EVERY TUESDAY NOON IN THE COMMUNITY ROOM, THE GUEST SPEAKER WAS DAVID ROSHEIM OF MAQUOKETA.   HE TALKED ABOUT HIS LATEST BOOK, "THE FOUR SISTERS" THAT HE HAS SPENT SEVERAL YEARS
RESEARCHING.   IT (ACTUALLY 3 BOOKS) CONCERNS THE HISTORY OF
PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITALS OVER 150 YEARS IN IOWA, OF WHICH THERE ARE
FOUR, IN INDEPENDENCE, CHEROKEE, CLARINDA AND MOUNT PLEASANT.
TWO ARE STILL OPEN.    LAST YEAR, THE GOVERNOR CLOSED TWO.

REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE TED CRUZ WAS IN MAQUOKETA
YESTERDAY AT THE PEARSON CENTER ON THE JACKSON COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS.   HE SPOKE TO ABOUT 150 ABOUT HIS INTENTIONS
TO MAKE THE 2016 ELECTION A REFERENDUM ON OBAMACARE AND PASSING A FLAT TAX.
