TODAY, IT STARTED GOING DOWN HILL, ESPECIALLY THIS AFTERNOON.
BY THE WEEKEND, HIGHS WILL ONLY BE IN THE 30'S.
NO SNOW IN FORECAST HOWEVER.
MAQUOKETA POLICE OFFICER JAYSON HEIAR INVESTIGATED A 2-CAR
ACCIDENT FRIDAY AFTERNOON INVOLVING TYLER GARIEN, AGE 20, OF MAQUOKETA AND MICHAEL GOGEL, 26, OF DYERSVILLE.
GOGEL WAS TOWING A TRAILER EAST ON MAPLE AND FAILED TO YIELD
UPON MAKING A LEFT TURN ON TO SOUTH CLARK. GARIEN STRUCK GOGEL
ON THE TRAILER THAT GOGEL WAS TOWING. DAMAGES WERE
LISTED AT $3,500 TO TYLER GARIEN'S 2008 FORD FUSION ADN $1,000 TO GOGEL'S 2005 CHEVY. GOGEL WAS CITED FOR FAILURE TO YIELD WHEN MAKING A LEFT TURN.

WHERE THE ANNUAL JACKSON COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY DINNER AND
AUCTION WAS HELD. NICE WEATHER AND A GOOD TURNOUT. THANKS
TO ALL THAT ATTENDED. IT WAS THE FIRST YEAR IT WAS HELD IN
BELLEVUE AND HORIZON WAS A GREAT PLACE TO HAVE IT.
A NEW BUSINESS WILL BE OPENING AT 124 EAST PLATT STREET IN
MAQUOKETA THIS WEEKEND. "OVERSTOCK MATRESS AND BEDS"
WILL OCCUPY THE 5,000 SQUARE FOOT BUILDING AT THE CORNER OF
PLATT AND OLIVE STREETS, OWNED BY RICK AND PAT DECKER. THE
BUILDING HAS BEEN VACANT FOR THE PAST FIVE YEARS. IT WAS
FORMERLY THE HOME OF "TERM CITY FURNITURE". AND FOR YEARS
BEFORE THAT, IT WAS THE HARRIS PENROSE COMPANY HARDWARD
STORE. RON, BRENT AND BRIAN CULLEN, THREE BROTHERS FROM
PLATTEVILLE, WISCONSIN ARE OPENING AN UPPER MIDWEST DISTRIBUTORSHIP IN MAQUOKETA FOR OVERSTOCK MATRESSES AND
BOX SPRINGS, WHICH IS BASED IN ATLANTA. THE STORE WILL PRIMARILY SELL SERTA MATTRESSES AND BOX SPRINGS. SIGNS FOR THE NEW BUSINESS WILL GOING UP THIS WEEK AND THE STORE WILL BE OPEN BY THIS WEEKEND.

THE 11TH ANNUAL FESTIVAL OF TREES IS OPEN AT THE OHNWARD
FINE ARTS CENTER IN MAQUOKETA, EVERY DAY. STOP OUT AND
YOU'LL REALLY GET INTO THE CHRISTMAS MOOD. NO ADMISSION.
