WEEKEND OUT AND ABOUT

MAQUOKETA HAD 3RD RANKED OPPONENT FOR HOMECOMING.    BIG
KIDS.
HALF TIME SHOW WAS VERY GOOD....KENT CRAWFORD HAS HAD ONE EACH YEAR FOR OVER 41 YEARS.    THIS WAS ONE OF THE BEST.

THE HAWKEYE GAME WAS GOOD THOUGH NOT VERY EXCITING AS THE HAWKS WON BIG OVER NORTHERN TEXAS (DENTON, TEXAS NORTH OF
DALLAS) BUT WEATHER WAS GREAT.    LOTS OF SUNSHINE, A LITTLE BREEZE AND BARGAIN CONCESSION PRICES.    WE DID A LOT OF WALKING ALONG
WITH SOME TAILAGATING.     TOUGHER GAMES ARE COMING.

SUNDAY,OFF TO THE FALL PANCAKE BREAKFAST AT COMP COURAGEOUS.
BIG CROWD, MOSTLY SENIORS.
FORMER SENATOR MERLIN HULSE (AGE 92 AND FROM CLARENCE) IS
A BOARD MEMBER AND HELPS WITH EACH BREAKFAST.   WAS THERE EARLY THIS MORNING.    CHARLIE BECKER STARTED THE CAMP I BELIEVE IN 1972 AND IT IS  NOW ONE OF THE BIGGEST AND BEST IN THE COUNTRY.
GIVEN BY MR AND MRS TOM RILEY....ALREADY HAS NEEDED AN EXTRA
CAR AND A BIGGER ENGINE.   IT GOES DOWN AROUND THE NEW LAKE,
WHERE THE DEPOT IS LOCATED.
PARENTS OF CAMPERS CAN RENT THIS CABOOSE CAR FOR OVERNIGHT STAY.
YES...A FAVORITE WITH KIDS IS THE BARN.
THERE WAS MUSIC IN THE LOFT IN ONE OF THE MANY PERMANENT BUILDINGS ON THE  CAMPGROUNDS.
WHEN WE GO BACK IN THE SPRING FOR THEIR NEXT BREAKFAST, THIS BUILDING WILL BE OPEN.   IT IS NEXT TO THE LAKE, WILL HAVE A COUPLE
RENTAL BEDROOMS AND 2 BOWLING LANES IN THE BASEMENT AND THE
COMMUNITY ROOM UPSTAIRS.     AND WHEN WE GO BACK IN THE SPRING,
WE MAY WIN THIS CAR.    WE BOUGHT A $25 TICKET AND NOW CAN THINK ABOUT IT FOR A YEAR.     WANT A TICKET?   SEND $25  TO CAMP COURAGEOUS, MONTICELLO.   PICK OF CAR ON THE CAMP'S WEB SITE TOO.

NOON TIME AND OFF TO ANDREW TO THE ANDREW LIONS 3RD ANNUAL
CHILI AND PIE CONTEST.
GOOD TURNOUT...THEIR BEST EVER.
AROUND 15 ENTRIES IN THE CHILI CONTEST AND I TRIED MOST AND
VOTED FOR ONE, THAT INCLUDED SOME CORN.     THE TOP ONE DETERMINED BY THOSE WHO PURCHASED THE LUNCH TICKET.
THE PIES WERE JUDGED BY SELECTED  JUDGES.
THE WINNER OF THE PIE CONTEST...AN APPLE PIE.

ALVERDA BAHR OF ANDREW....
SHE WON THE APRON SHE HAS ON.    NANCY AND I EACH HAD A PIECE OF THE PEAR PIE.    NEVER  HAD PEAR PIE BEFORE.   EXCELLENT!
WHO ENTERED THE BEST CHILI?
JERRY McMURRAY AND ROGER MICHELS, FOR THE 3RD YEAR IN  A  ROW,
DID A CHILI ENTRY TOGETHER AND WON 1ST PLACE.     BELOW, JERRY
WEARING HIS WINNING APRON.    DON'T HAVE A PICTURE OF ROGER.
THEY ARE GOING TO MAKE THEIR WINNING ENTRY CHILI TODAY AND HAVE
IT AVAILABLE FOR THE FARMERS MARKET TUESDAY IN MAQUOKETA.
