WEDNESDAY DAILY REPORT

NO RAIN...HAZY AND COOL.   OUR COOLER WEATHER AND HAZE IS COMING FROM WILD FIRES IN CANADA, WITH HEALTH CONCERNS ALSO.
BUT, THE PROBLEM IS NO LONGER SEVERE AND WE SHOULD HAVE
NO FURTHER CONCERNS THIS YEAR.
TODAY'S HIGH, ONLY 68.    JULY...AND JUST 68.
BETTER, WARMER WEATHER COMING LATER IN WEEK.   SOME, BUT LITTLE, RAIN TOO.

CITY COUNCIL MEETING THIS WEEK AND THE COUNCIL SPENT  AROUND $4,000 FOR A NEW BACKUP TRAFFIC SIGNAL CONTROLLER THAT COULD BE USED AT SEVERAL IF NOT ALL THE TRAFFIC LIGHT LOCATIONS WHEN NEEDED.
SCOTT WARREN, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE YMCA, DISCUSSED
APPLYING FOR A GRANT FOR LIGHTS AND A  UV SYSTEM FOR THE YMCA
POOL.   THE UV SYSTEM HARNESES THE POWER OF ULTRAVIOLET
LIGHT TO LOWER CHEMICAL LEVELS AND ELIMINATES CHLORINE BY-PRODUCTS, MAKING THE POOL SAFE, HEALTHY AND EASIER TO MANAGE.
A 50-50 GRANT WILL BE APPLIED FOR, FOR THE APPROXIMATELY $100,000 COST.   MAQUOKETA'S 50% GRANT MATCH WOULD COME FROM A 0 INTEREST LOAN FROM WPPI, THE WHOLESALE ELECTRICITY SUPPLIER FOR THE CITY.    THE COUNCIL GAME WARREN THE APPROVAL TO APPLY FOR  THE GRANT.

IRV ROSHEIM, 93, OF AMES DIED JUNE 30TH.    TEACHER AND COACH FOR
42 YEARS IN AMES.     WW II VET.    SURVIVORS INCLUDE HIS WIFE MARY AND
A SON, DAVID ROSHEIM OF MAQUOKETA.    THE FUNERAL WILL BE
SATURDAY AT ST. ANDREW'S LUTHERAN CHURCH AT AMES.

FINISHED THE REGULAR SEASON AT 13 AND 9 IN THE WAMAC AND 19 AND 16 OVERALL.
THE CARDS BEGIN TOURNAMENT PLAY AT HOME THIS THURSDAY NIGHT AT 7 AGAINST CLEAR CREEK AMANA. 

HIGH SCHOOL TOURNAMENT BASEBALL, THE CARDINAL BOYS PLAY FRIDAY, JULY 17TH AT 5 P.M. AGAINST DAVENPORT ASSUMPTION, AT DEWITT.

THIS IS GOING TO BE A BIG MOVIE.    IT STARTS THURSDAY NIGHT AT THE 61 DRIVE-IN THEATRE SOUTH OF MAQUOKETA AND IT STARTS FRIDAY AT THE VOY 1 THEATRE IN MAQUOKETA.     FRIDAY ONLY, IT WILL BE SHOWN
AT 1, 2, 3 AND 4 P.M.    THEN AS ALWAYS AT 7 IN THE EVENING.
McDONALDS IN MAQUOKETA AND DEWITT HAS A SPECIAL PROMOTION 
GOING ON REGARDING THE MOVIE.   STOP IN FOR MORE INFORMATION.

YESTERDAY, KMAQ NEWS DIRECTOR CODY BARNES GOT A NEW HORN FOR HIS PICK-UP.    HE CALLED RUSTY LIETZ AND I OUT TO GIVE A LISTEN.

WITH THAT...I'LL SIGN-OFF FOR ANOTHER DAY.
