MAQUOKETA POLICE INVESTIGATED A MINOR ACCIDENT LATE YESTERDAY MORNING.    DARWIN LYON, AGE 80, OF MAQUOKETA, WAS DRIVING NORTH ON  ELIZA AND HIS PASSENGER MIRROR HIT THE MIRROR OF A PARKED
VEHICLE, REGISTERED TO JRE ENTERPRISES OF MAQUOKETA.
NO CHARGES, MINOR DAMAGE AND NO INJURIES.

IN CITY COUNCIL NEWS:
A PUBLIC HEARING WILL BE HELD SEPT. 2ND AT 7 P.M. FOR THE PROPOSED SALE OF THE COMMUNITY CENTER TO DR. ROGER WALLER OF MAQUOKETA, FOR $26,215.
THE NEXT MEETING OF THE COUNCIL WILL BE ON TUESDAY, SEPT. 2ND, THE DAY AFTER LABOR DAY.
THE COUNCIL APPROVED A BILL OF $2,860 TO CHUCK FEY CONCRETE
FOR WORK DONE AT LITTLE BEAR PARK.
AND THE COUNCIL APPROVED THE PURHCASE OF 7 NEW COMPUTERS FOR THE YMCA AT A COST OF$7,345.
THE COUNCIL ACCEPTED THE RESIGNATION OF REBECCA TUBBS LICHTER FROM THE LIBRARY BOARD.  SHE HAS SERVED ON THAT BOARD FOR 20 YEARS  AND IS PLANNING TO MOVE FROM THE COMMUNITY.
MAYOR DON SCHWENKER APPOINTED JEANNIE JORGENSEN OF MAQUOKETA TO REPLACE HER ON THE LIBRARY BOARD.

A THEFT REPORTED TO THE MAQUOKETA POLICE.
LORETTA GREEN OF SOUTH SECOND STREET REPORTED YESTERDAY AFTERNOON THAT $55 WAS TAKEN FROM HER APARTRMENT.

TOM GRUENWALD IS THE NEW ACTIVITIES DIRECTOR FOR MAQUOKETA SCHOOL DISTRICT, GRADES 7-12.    HE SPOKE AT ROTARY THIS NOON.

THE MAQUOKETA FOOTBALL TEAMS....FRESHMEN,  SOPHOMORE AND
VARSITY.....WILL  HOST A SCRIMMAGE THIS SATURDAY AFTERNOON AT GOODENOW FIELD, STARTING AT 3 P.M.     THEY WILL SCRIMMAGE NORTHEAST OF GOOSE LAKE.    ADMISSION WILL BE A GATORADE DRINK AND THOSE CAN BE USED THROUGH OUT THE SEASON AHEAD.
THE CARDINALS OPEN THE SEASON   AUG. 29TH AT CASCADE.
MATT CLARK WILL BROADCAST THE GAME ON KMAQ AM-FM AND ON
OUR INTERNET SITE.
