THE NEW MANAGER OF MAQUOKETA MUNICIPAL ELECTRIC LIGHT AND POWER, TOM GAFFIGAN, WILL CONDUCT A BOARD GOAL SETTING WORK SESSION NEXT THURSDAY AFTERNOON AT CITY HALL WHICH WILL BE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. STARTS AT 4:30. ON KMAQ'S "JUST TALK" SHOW HE SAID HE HAS RECOMMENDED THE PLANT CONTINUE OPERATING FOR AT LEAST 2 YEARS AS OPERATING COSTS ARE LOW ENOUGH TO PROVIDE WHAT HE
CALLED INSURANCE FOR BACKUP POWER. THE DISTRIBUTION PART OF MMEU WILL CONTINUE TO OPERATE IF THE PLANT CLOSES, AS THERE IS
ALWAYS WORK TO BE DONE AROUND TOWN.
