THURSDAY JULY 3 DAILY REPORT

BEAUTIFUL DAY AND THE REST OF WEEKEND SHOULD BE GREAT!
PEOPLE ARE IN A BETTER MOOD.

THE MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCIL PERSONNEL COMMITTEE WILL BE RECOMMENDING TO THE  FULL COUNCIL THAT A  CEDAR RAPIDS LAW FIRM BE HIRED AS THE CITY'S NEW ATTORNEY.    IT MET THIS WEEK.
THE CURRENT ATTORNEY FOR MANY YEARS, IS KEN WRIGHT LAW OFFICE.
THE COUNCIL THIS SPRING DECIDED TO PUT THE JOB OUT FOR BIDS.
THERE WERE 3.
WRIGHT BID, $28,800 A YEAR FIRM.
LYNCH DALLAS OF CEDAR RAPIDS, $28,000 RETAINER.
WRIGHT BID IS FIRM, WILL NOT BE LOWER OR HIGHER.
LYNCH SERVICE WORK WILL NOT EXCEED $28,000 BUT IF THEY THE WORK INVOLVED WILL BE LOWER THAN THE RETAINER, THEY WILL REFUND  A PORTION TO THE FACILITY.   I DON'T KNOW WHO THE 3RD BIDDER WAS, BUT HEARD THE FIRM WAS ALSO OUT OF TOWN.   AND I ASSUME THEIR BID
WAS THE HIGHEST OF THE THREE.

ON THE POLICE BLOTTER:
AT 120 N. ARCADE STREET #1, THE CLEANING PEOPLE REPORTED THEY
FOUND METH MAKING MATERIALS IN THE APARTMENT.
AND THE SAND BOX CRANE HAS BEEN BROKEN AT LITTLE BEAR PARK.
ALSO, THE CITY FOUND FECES ON THE WOMEN'S BATHROOM WALLS.
IT WAS BEEN THAT VANDALISM INCIDENTS LIKE THIS ARE A COMMON OCCURANCE AT THE NEW PARK.

THE MAQUOKETA CARDINAL BOYS LOST A DOUBLE-HEADER TO MARION
LAST NIGHT AND THEIR RECORD NOW IS 14 AND 11.

THE MAQUOKETA RIVER IS GOING DOWN.
THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER FLOODING IS A REAL PROBLEM IN DOWNTOWN
DAVENPORT.
THE WAPSI RIVER ALSO HAS EXTENSIVE FLOODING.

FOR THE NEXT COUPLE WEEKS, I'LL PUT UP HERE A MAQUOKETA BUSINESS OF THE PAST THAT YOU MAY REMEMBER.

NO REPORT TOMORROW, UNLESS A LATE-BREAKING STORY WORTHY
OF PUTTING ONE UP.

                                            HAPPY

 DENNIS VOY
