YEARS AGO IN MAQUOKETA

TOP:  THE OLD GOLF COURSE CLUBHOUSE ON EAST MAPLE STREET.    EAST PLATT STREET WAS THE NORTH BOUNRY OF IT.     TUDDY SMITH THURSDAY NIGHT PRIME RIB WAS A SPECIALTY.
ROSS MEN'S WEAR, OWNED BY TOM ROSS, IN THE LATE 50'S AND EARLY 60'S WAS LOCATED JUST SOUTH OF THE DECKER HOTEL.   BUILDING NO LONGER
THERE.        MAQUOKETA HAD 3 OR 4 MEN'S WEAR STORES THEN.
OK TIRE STORE, ON PLATT ST CORNER, ONE BLOCK WEST OF MAIN,  NOW A LOT FOR BRAD DEERY MOTORS.   THEN OWNED BY JOHN AND GLADY LARKEY, THEN LATER BECAME HICK'S TV AND APPLIANCE AND THEN GRUENWALD TV AND APPLIANCE UNTIL IT WAS TORN DOWN.
TOWN AND COUNTRY LANES ON WEST SIDE OF MAQUOKETA.    TORN DOWN AND MADE THE LOCATION FOR WAL MART'S FIRST STORE.   NOW THEISEN'S FARM AND HOME STORE.

  1. The Ross's Men's Wear store front looked like the Maquoketa Sentinel Press building to me. I thought it was, until I read what you wrote! Awesome photos!
