HIGH OF 35. TONIGHT, 5 ABOVE AND.. SUNNY AND IN MID 20'S TOMORROW,
VALENTINES DAY.
NO INJURIES WHEN A SEMI AND SNOW PLOW COLLIDED ON HIGHWAY 61 TWO MILES NORTH OF MAQUOKETA AT 9 THIS MORNING. A MAN FROM ILLINOIS WAS DRIVING SOUTH AND CAME UPON THE SNOW PLOW DRIVEN BY GREGORY KRUSER, AGE 50, OF MAQUOKETA. THE SEMI HIT THE BACK OF THE SNOW PLOW. THE TRUCK DRIVER WAS CHARGED AND $10,000
IN DAMAGES TO HIS SEMI. NO DAMAGE TO SNOW PLOW.
MAQUOKETA HAS HAD 11 WATER MAIN BREAKS SINCE JANUARY 1 ACCORDING TO JEFF BODENHOFER, ALLIANCE WATER RESOURCES
MANAGER. AS IT GETS WARMER, IT MAY CONTINUE. WARMER WEATHER WILL DRIVE THE FROST DEEPER AND MAY CAUSE MORE PROBLEMS.
SAME FOR WATER PIPES ON PRIVATE PROPERTY AND COSTLY BREAKS THEN ARE REPAIRED BY THE HOMEOWNER. LET YOUR COLD WATER TAP RUN A THIN STREAM OF WATER DAY AND NIGHT.
I GOT ANOTHER EMAIL REGARDING A GROCERY STORE IN BALDWIN,
FROM JEAN SCOTT. IT SAID HER HUSBAND'S FAMILY OWNED THE STORE IN BALDWIN FOR OVER 50 YEARS. HER HUSBAND'S GRANDFATHER, FRED W. SCOTT, STARTED IT IN THE LATE 1800'S AND WHEN HE DIED, IT WENT TO HIS GRANDMOTHER WHO HIRED HER SON (MY HUSBAND'S FATHER) TO MANAGE IT. AFTER MORE THAN 50 YEARS IN THE SCOTT FAMILY, IT WAS SOLD TO THE BOCK BROTHERS IN 1947. JEAN ALSO WROTE THAT SHE HAS PHOTOS OF THE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE STORE BACK WHEN THE STREETS IN BALDWIN WERE DIRT. NOW, ALL I NEED IS TO KNOW WHO THE STORE CLERK IS IN THE PHOTO I PUT UP HERE EARLIER THIS WEEK.
OVER 10,000 CARS DROVE THROUGH THE PARK IN DUBUQUE DURING THE CHRISTMAS SEASON TO VIEW THE LIGHTS AND DISPLAYS. OVER $96,000 WAS RAISED WITH THE $8 PER CAR FEE AND THE MONEY WILL NOW BE
USED TO SUPPORT MULTIPLE PROGRAMS IN DUBUQUE.
THIS YEAR THE IOWA (DOT) DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION IS CELEBRATING 100 YEARS AND THE STATE DOT LIBRARIAN WILL PRESENT
A PROGRAM ON THE ANNIVERSARY AT 2 TOMORROW (SAT) AFTERNOON AT THE MAQUOKETA PUBLIC LIBRARY. THE LIBRARIAN IS LEIGHTON CHRISTIANSEN, A MAQUOKETA NATIVE. EVERTONE IS WELCOME.
