YESTERDAY AFTERNOON, A NEW ADDITION TO THE ADVANCED MANUFACTURING CENTER WAS DEDICATED NEXT TO THE MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL AND ADJACENT TO THE CLINTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE BUILDING.
FIRST THERE WAS A BUILDING FOR THE WELDING CLASSES. THE NEW
BUILDING (A WICK BUILDING WITH ROSS RIVER THE GENERAL CONTRACTOR)
HOUSES MORE EQUIPMENT FOR STUDENTS AND OLDER CITIZENS TO LEARN A MANUFACUTURING TRADE. ON DISPLAY YESTERDAY WAS NOT ONLY
THE BUILDING, BUT THE EQUIPMENT FOR TEACHING IN IT. KAREN VICKERS, PRESIDENT OF CLINTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE, WAS THE EMCEE OF
THE PROGRAM AND RIBBON CUTTING EVENT YESTERDAY.
IF YOU OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW WANTS TO HAVE A BETTER JOB IN THE FUTURE, THIS IS THE MAN TO SEE. HE IS CRAIG BURKEN. HE TEACHES INTRODUCTION TO WELDING CLASSES AND HAS LED THE WELDING
ACADEMY AT MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL SINCE IT BEGAN FOUR YEARS AGO. HE CAME TO TEACHING AFTER WORKING IN PRIVATE INDUSTRY FOR SEVERAL YEARS. HE HAS A UNIQUE WAY OF ENGAGING STUDENTS TO HELP THEM UNDERSTAND WHAT IS EXPECTED IN THE "REAL WORLD". HE NOT ONLY TEACHES THE SKILLS REQUIRED FOR WELDING AND OR
MANUFACTURING, BUT ALSO HELPS STUDENTS DEVELOP GOOD WORK HABITS SUCH AS PUNCTUALITY, WORK ETHIC AND SAFETY. HE IS EMPLOYED BY CLINTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE WHO WORKS WITH MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS THROUGH A 28-E AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE SCHOOL DISTRICT AND CLINTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE. STOP IN AND TALK TO HIM!
WHAT A GREAT COLLEGE CAMPUS WE HAVE RIGHT HERE IN MAQUOKETA!
