LOWER LEVEL OF THE HISTORICAL SOCIETY'S CLINTON ENGINES SITE.
I WAS INVITED AGAIN THIS YEAR (THANK YOU) AND TOOK MY CAMERA,
ENJOYED A GOOD LUNCH, RECEIVED A FREE GIFT AND WAS RECOGNIZED WITH ALL THE OTHERS IN A SPECIAL POEM READ BY THE EMCEE ROSIE
NOONAN OF NORTHERN JACKSON COUNTY AND A BOARD MEMBER.
THEN, THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY WAS THE NAMING OF THE 15TH ANNUAL
GRACE TUBBS MEMORIAL SUMMIT AWARD WINNER. IT IS KEPT A SECRET!
IT IS NAMED AFTER THE LATE GRACE (MRS. ED) TUBBS WHO DIED 15 YEARS AGO AND WHO HERSELF WAS AN ACTIVE VOLUNTEER. TWO OF HER SONS,
ALAN AT LEFT AND STEVE AT RIGHT WERE PRESENT TO PRESENT THE AWARD......
TO.....YEVON ZISMER OF MAQUOKETA. I'VE KNOWN HER MANY YEARS AND WAS ALSO A FRIEND OF HER LATE HUSBAND JACK, WHO DIED OVER 20 YEARS AGO. SHE IS 91 YEARS OLD, STILL LIVES ALONG IN HER HOME, STILL DRIVES TO CHURCH AND THE STORE AND STILL MAKES QUILTS.
SHE MADE HER FIRST QUILT WHEN SHE WAS 8. SHE BELONGS TO THE
"GREAT THREADS QUILT CLUB" IN MONMOUTH WHICH MEETS WEEKLY TO
SEW AND SHE ALSO BELONGS TO THE "HONEYBEES QUILT CLUB" AT FAITH COMMUNITY CHURCH IN MAQUOKETA, WHICH SEWS QUILTS TWICE A MONTH.
AND THE QUILTS ARE DONATED TO DESERVING PEOPLE. YEVON HAS A SON, KENNEY DEES, IN MAQUOKETA AND A DAUGHTER, AURILLA STORMS IN CLINTON. SHE HAS A GRANDSON TOO.
CONGRATULATIONS TO YEVON! SHE RECEIVED A PLAQUE AND $500 BY
THE TUBBS FAMILY FOUNDATION TO GIVE TO THE CHARITY OF HER CHOICE,
WHICH SHE WILL SELECT LATER.
