YESTERDAY, SUNDAY, WE LIVED IN A WORLD OF ICE!
WOW, WAS IT ICY.
MANY CHURCHES CALLED OFF SERVICES....AND PEOPLE STAYED HOME.
THEN IT GOT WARM OVERNIGHT AND THIS MORNING, WE HAD FOG.
AND BECAUSE OF ICY RURAL GRAVEL ROADS AND THE  FOG, MAQUOKETA
(AND SEVERAL OTHER TOWNS) HAD NO SCHOOL TODAY.
IT HAS BEEN A NICE SUNNY DAY, WITH A HIGH OF 44.
WARMER TOMORROW.

IN THE TEENS FOR A HIGH THURSDAY.

IN SPORTS:    THE MAQUOKETA BOYS BEAT MT. VERNON FRIDAY NIGHT,
54 TO 39.    THE GIRLS LOST 65 TO 44.
SATURDAY, THE MAQUOKETA WRESTLERS WERE IN THE WAMAC TOURNAMENT OF 16 TEAMS AND ENDED UP IN 14TH PLACE.
THE MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL BOWLERS HAD A BAD WEEKEND TOO.
IN A 3-TEAM EVENT, THE GIRLS TOOK SECOND PLACE (JORDAN EHLERS HAD THE BEST GAME, 215, CORRECTING AN EARLIER REPORT)  AND THE BOYS
TOOK 3RD.

THE MAQUOKETA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ANNUAL MEETING WAS FRIDAY NIGHT AT TRUE RESTAURANT.    NICE TURNOUT OF 135.  AWARDS GIVEN:
TOM DEVINE GAVE HIS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR'S AWARD TO LECHTENBERG
DENTAL.   BOARD PRESIDENT DAVE UPDEGRAPH HONORED MAQUOKETA
ARTIST ROSE FRANTZEN WITH THE PRESIDENT'S AWARD.    SHE RECEIVED
A STANDING OVATION.   A NEW AWARD, THE YOUNG ENTREPRENEURE
AWARD WENT TO JOY KETELSEN YODER  AND HER NATIONWIDE "RAG-A-BABE" BUSINESS IN DOWNTOWN MAQUOKETA.     THE "ABOVE AND BEYOND" AWARD WENT TO D'AGOSTINE FAMILY DENISTRY AND THE SERVICE AWARD WENT TO KERRY SCHEPERS.   THERE WAS THEN A SILENT AND
REGULAR AUCTION AND 50'S MUSIC BY "THE FAST CLYDES".

TODAY WAS THE FIRST DAY FOR 46-CENT FIRST CLASS STAMPS.

OUR CONGRESSMAN BRUCE BRALEY (D) IS CONSIDERING A RUN FOR THE SEAT THAT WILL BE VACATED BY U.S. SENATOR TOM HARKIN (D), IOWA.
HARKIN ANNOUNCED LAST WEEK THAT HE WILL NOT RUN AGAIN.    HE'S 73 AND WILL END UP WITH 40 YEARS IN THE U.S. SENATE.   HE SAID HE WANTED TO GIVE A YOUNGER PERSON THE OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE.   I SHOULD SAY SO.     EVERYBODY KNOWS I'M FOR TERM LIMITS!

WOMAN IN BELLEVUE WHO DIED YESTERDAY.

ONE FINAL SPORTS NOTE.   THE TIPTON BOYS LOST 62 GAMES IN A ROW.
BUT SATURDAY NIGHT, THEY  BROKE THE STREAK WITH AN OT WIN OVER
MIDLAND, WYOMING.
THE 62  BY THE WAY IS FAR FROM THE STATE RECORD.
