HOUSE IN IOWA CITY, PROCEEDS FROM THE SALE OF 8 PAINTINGS THAT
HUNG AT McDONALDS IN MAQUOKETA, SINCE THE RESTAURANT OPENED
IN 1988. THE PAINTINGS, SOLD HERE AT KMAQ IN OCTOBER IN A SILENT-AUCTION, BROUGHT JUST UNDER $3,000 AND LOIS KARPINSKI AND GLEN
KARPINSKI, OWNERS OF McDONALDS, MATCHED THE AMOUNT AND
MADE IT AN EVEN $6,000. THE RESTAURANT HAS COMPLETELY BEEN RE-DONE, INSIDE AND OUT, AND THE PAINTINGS WERE NOT A PART OF THE
NEW DECOR. ONE OF THE PAINTINGS, OF THE OLD SHERIFF'S RESIDENCE ON WEST PLATT (NOW SITE OF THE LAW CENTER) WAS PURCHASED FOR
$500 BY DIANE DERGANZ OF MAQUOKETA, WHO LIVED IN THE HOUSE WHEN
HER DAD WAS SHERIFF IN THE 60'S. SHOWN ABOVE, LEFT TO RIGHT,
