THIS YEAR'S NEW "FARMER'S MARKET" HAS BEEN A BIG SUCCESS IN MAQUOKETA. PLANNING STARTED BACK IN JANUARY BY A HARD-WORKING
VOLUNTEER COMMITTEE....AND IT PAID OFF. THE EVENT EVERY TUESDAY SINCE JUNE IN THE PARKING LOT OF OHNWARD FINE ARTS CENTER HAS HAD
GREAT VENDORS AND GREAT SUPPORT BY THE COMMUNITY. AND IT
CONTINUES UNTIL OCTOBER 16TH. LAST NIGHT, WHILE THE WEATHER
IS STILL WARM AND IT IS STILL LIGHT AFTER 7, THE BOARD DECIDED TO
HAVE A POTLUCK-PICNIC FOR THE COMMITTEE AND VENDORS. THERE WAS A GOOD TURNOUT! I'M GLAD THEY INVITED NANCY AND I.....AS
IT WAS FUN AND THE TASTEY FOOD AND GOOD FELLOWSHIP WAS FUN TOO. I ATE TOO MUCH OF COURSE AND LIKE AT ALL PICNICS....THERE WAS FOOD LEFT OVER!
THANKS TO MARY HAYWARD (ABOVE LEFT) AND JUDY TONDERUM (ABOVE
RIGHT) FOR ORGANIZING IT. THEY ARE COMMITTEE MEMBERS ALONG
WITH TED STRAIT (THE THIN-HAIR ONE ABOVE IN BLUE SHIRT) AND
LESLIE HAYES AND TOM DEVINE AND I PROBABLY FORGOT A COUPLE.
LAST NIGHT, THERE WERE 4 NEW VENDORS AND THE VENDORS LIST HAS
GROWN TO OVER 20. LAST NIGHT, ALMOST EVERYONE SOLD-OUT BEFORE CLOSING AT 7. THE MARKET OPENS EVERY TUESDAY AT 4 AND THE REAL BUSY HOUR IS THE FIRST HOUR FROM 4 UNTIL 5. ONE LADY IS THERE
EVERY THURSDAY AT 4 TO MAKE SURE SHE GETS FRESH EGGS. ANOTHER
MAN IS THERE EVERY WEEK AT 4 TO GET FIRST-CHOICE ON A HOME-MADE
PIE.
YES...THERE ARE MORE FARMERS MARKETS YET THIS YEAR AND YES THERE WILL BE A BIGGER AND BETTER FARMER'S MARKET NEXT YEAR.
