OF 5-FEET, 3-INCHES. THE WINNING JUMP WAS 5-10.
THE JACKSON COUNTY MASTER GARDENERS, AN ACTIVE GROUP SERVING
THE COUNTY SINCE 1998, WILL HOLD THEIR PLANT SALE SATURDAY, MAY 12TH FROM 9 UNTIL 11 A.M. AT BOYER HALL ON THE FAIRGROUNDS. AS IN
PAST YEARS, THE GARDENERS WILL USE PROCEEDS FROM THE SALE TO FUND GRANTS FOR COMMUNITY BEAUTIFICATION PROJECTS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTY. THERE ARE 56 MEMBERS WHO CONTRIBUTE THEIR TIME AND ENERGY TO OVER 30 PROJECTS AT SUCH LOCATIONS AS THE FAIRGROUNDS,
DOWNTOWN AREAS, AND PARKS IN MAQUOKETA.
UNEMPLOYMENT RATES DROPPED IN ALL AREA COUNTIES IN MARCH.
THE IOWA RATE WENT DOWN TO 5.2 PERCENT, FROM 5.3 IN FEBRUARY.
IN JACKSON COUNTY, THE RATE IN MARCH WAS 6.6 PERCENT. IT HAD BEEN 7.2 IN FEBRUARY.
MAQUOKETA COUNCILMAN ERIC PAPE HAS CHANGED HIS MIND AND
HAS DECIDED TO STAY AS COUNCILMAN AT-LARGE AND HAS WITHDRAWN
HIS APPLICATION FOR 3RD WARD. THE COUNCIL STILL HAS 3 RESIDENTS
WHO EXPRESSED INTEREST IN THE 3RD WARD OPENING....JOSH
COLLISTER, OWNER OF THE DOWNTOWN BAKERY, RETIRED SCHOOL TEACHER CECIL BENTLY AND ONE-TIME CITY MANAGER IN MAQUOKETA, NOW RETIRED,
GUS GLASER. THE COUNCIL WILL PROBABLY DECIDE ON ONE OF THE THREE
AT THE REGULAR MAY 7TH MEETING.
MAQUOKETA FIREMEN WERE CALLED TO A UTILITY POLE ON FIRE AT CORNER OF HURSTVILLE ROAD AND ROCKDALE ROAD, AT 8 LAST NIGHT.
FIREMEN WERE AT THE SCENE ABOUT 40 MINUTES, PUTTING OUT THE
FIRE AT THE TOP OF THE POLE OWNED BY ALLIANT ENERGY.
THE MAQUOKETA FAMILY YMCA WILL BE CELEBRATING KIDS DAY ... A FREE COMMUNITY EVENT ... FROM 11 AM UNTIL 1 PM TOMORROW, AT THE Y.
GAMES, CRAFTS, DINO JUMP, AND HEALTHY SNACKS. THE PROGRAM
