THE JACKSON COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY ANNUAL VOLUNTEER LUNCHEON WAS HELD YESTERDAY AT THE
CLINTON ENGINES MUSEUM.
AFTER LUNCH, "VOLUNTEERS" DURING THE LAST YEAR AT BOTH MUSEUMS WERE RECOGNIZED AND THANKED.
ALSO, AS IN PAST YEARS SINCE
1999, THERE WAS THE NAMING OF THE GRACE TUBBS MEMORIAL SUMMITT AWARD WINNER.
IT IS PRESENTED EACH YEAR TO
AN OUTSTANDING VOLUNTEER BY THE TUBBS FAMILY, IN MEMORY OF GRACE TUBBS WHO WAS AN ACTIVE MAQUOKETA VOLUNTEER.
THE AWARD YESTERDAY WAS PRESENTED TO GARY EGGERS OF MAQUOKETA.
GARY IS THE VOLUNTEER DIRECTOR OF THE MAQUOKETA COMMUNITY CUPBOARD. HE GETS NO PAY FOR THIS JOB WHICH HE HAS HAD FOR 7 YEARS AND USUALLY REQUIRES ABOUT 20 HOURS OF HIS TIME A WEEK. STEVE (RIGHT) AND AL TUBBS PRESENTED HIM WITH $500 TO GIVE TO HIS FAVORITE
CHARITY. AND TO NO SURPRISE, HE SAID HE WOULD GIVE THE MONEY TO THE COMMUNITY CUPBOARD. HE WAS ALSO PRESENTED WITH AN ENGRAVED GLASS MANTEL CLOCK. THE MAQUOKETA COMMUNITY CUPBOARD IS USED BY AN AVERAGE OF 100 FAMILIES EACH WEEK, WHO STOP BY ON FRIDAY MORNINGS FOR THE FREE GROCERIES.
