ARE: AUDITOR, SHERIFF AND ONE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS POSITION.
THE HOSPITAL BOARD DID VOTE THIS WEEK TO INCREASE THE TAX
ASKING $100,000 TO $950,000 A YEAR. THE INCREASE WILL MEAN
ABOUT $16.49 A YEAR FOR A HOME VALUED AT $125,000. AN INCORRECT
DOLLAR AMOUNT WAS REPORTED EARLIER THIS WEEK HERE.
THE BIGGEST REASON FOR THE TAX INCREASE IS BECAUSE OF BAD DEBT.
IN 2,000 IT WAS $360,482.
THE CURRENT BAD DEBT, $995,791, UP FROM LAST YEAR'S $924,281.
THE LOCAL GRAVESIDE SERVICE FOR DORIS BROWN OF FORT DODGE AND FORMERLY OF MAQUOKETA, WILL BE AT 2 P.M. TOMORROW AFTERNOON, FOLLOWED BY A MEMORIAL SERVICE AT 5 P.M. AT THE FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH IN MAQUOKETA, WITH FELLOWSHIP TO FOLLOW.
ALGEAN HAYWARD, AGE 95, OF GREEN ISLAND DIED TODAY. THE FUNERAL WILL BE AT 10:30 MONDAY MORNING AT THE GREEN ISLAND CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH. VISITATION WILL BE SUNDAY AFTERNOON AT THE MILLER-LAW-JONE FUNERAL HOME IN PRESTON. SURVIVORS INCLUDE FROM
MAQUOKETA, DAUGHTER ARLIS KRABBENHOFT, AND DAUGHTER DIANNE BARKER.
