TEAM DEFEATED SOLON, 59 TO 49. DEREK HOPSON WAS HIGH FOR MAQUOKETA WITH 18 POINTS.
THE GIRLS LOST AT SOLON, 49 TO 25.
WRESTLING AT GOOSE LAKE, NORTHEAST DEFEATED MAQUOKETA 53 TO 27.
MAQUOKETA BEAT DURANT, 46 TO 30
AND MAQUOKETA DEFEATED MONTICELLO, 42 TO 30.
FOR MAQUOKETA, LOGAN MAYBERRY PINNED ALL THREE OF HIS OPPONENTS
AT 132 POUNDS. AND HAVEN MILLER WAS 3 AND 0 FOR THE CARDINALS
WITH TWO FALLS AND A DECISION, WRESTLING AT 126 POUNDS.

THE MAQUOKETA POST OFFICE WILL BE CLOSED ON MONDAY, JANUARY
16TH IN OBSERVANCE OF MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR HOLIDAY.

HUNDREDS OF FARM TRACTORS WILL ROLL INTO MAQUOKETA ON TUESDAY,
JUNE 12TH.
THE WMT TRACTORCADE WILL STAY OVERNIGHT THAT NIGHT AT THE
FAIRGROUNDS. THE FIRST OVERNIGHT WILL BE IN DEWITT ON JUNE 10TH
AND THE OVERNIGHT AT MAQUOKETA WILL THE FINAL NIGHT.
THE FAIRGROUNDS WILL REALLY BE BUSY AS THE WOODCARVER'S CONGRESS
WILL BE MAKING THEIR 3RD VISIT TO MAQUOKETA AT THE SAME TIME.
THE TRACTOR GROUP WILL BE HEADQUARTERED IN VOLUNTEER HALL AND
CAMPING WILL BE ON THE NORTHERN CAMPGROUNDS. THE WOODCARVERS
WILL BE USING PEARSON MEMORIAL CENTER AND CAMPING AROUND
THAT BUILDING.
IT WILL BE A LITTLE HARD HERE AT 129 NORTH MAIN STREET, HELPING PROMOTE A COMPETING RADIO STATION EVENT! BUT WE ARE GOOD SPORTS AND WE'LL DO IT WITH BELLS ON.
MAYBE I'LL DRIVE MY (61 DRIVE-IN THEATRE) 1952 ALLIS CHALMERS
TRACTOR (WITH BELLY MOWER) IN THE TRACTORCADE. I COULD STAY
CLOSE TO THE TRACTOR DRIVEN BY FRIENDS WALLY AND JOAN KRUSE
OF GOOSE LAKE. THEY ARE VETERANS OF TRACTORCADES AND WOULD
SHOW ME HOW TO DO IT RIGHT. THAT TRACTOR (KEPT ALIVE BY
JOHN DAGUE) HAS BEEN MOWING THE GRASS AT THE DRIVE-IN FOR
MANY, MANY YEARS.

JOE LICHT, AGE 39, OF MAQUOKETA, DIED SUNDAY AT HIS HOME.
THE FUNERAL SERVICE WILL BE AT 11 FRIDAY MORNING AT THE CHAPMAN
FUNERAL HOME IN WHEATLAND. VISITATION WILL BE FROM 4 TO 7 PM
TOMORROW. JOE WORKED FOR THE TELEPHONE COMPANY FOR SOME TIME
AND HIS HOBBIE WAS GUNSMITHING AND HE OWNED CUSTOM CONCEPTS GUNSMITH SHOP IN MAQUOKETA. HE IS SURVIVED BY TWO SONS, JOEY OF
GRAND MOUND AND AND SEAN AT HOME AND A DAUGHTER TIFFINI IN
WALCOTT. ALSO ONE GRANDDAUGHTER.

THE GIRL SCOUTS WILL START SELLING COOKIES FEBRUARY 17TH AND CONTINUE THROUGH MARCH 18TH. NO MORE ORDER TAKING.....YOU BUY A BOX AND TAKE IT WITH YOU RIGHT THEN. THE GOAL IS 2 MILLION BOXES TO BE SOLD IN THE COUNCIL'S 38 -COUNTY REGION OF EASTERN IOWA AND
WESTERN ILLINOIS. COST, SAME AS LAST YEAR, $3.50 A BOX. $2.59 PER BOX (APPROXIMATELY 75 PERCENT) STAYS IN THE COUNCIL.
THERE WILL BE A COOKIE RALLY ON FRIDAY NIGHT, JANUARY 27TH, FROM 6 TO
8:30 P.M. AT THE MAQUOKETA YMCA.
