PARTLY SUNNY TODAY AND IN THE LOW 40'S. BUT, THINGS WILL GO DOWN
HILL TOMORROW AND THE REST OF THE WEEK WILL BE A LOT COLDER AND
WE COULD GET A LITTLE SNOW TONIGHT AND TOMORROW.

CITY COUNCIL MEETING TONIGHT.

WRESTLING TONIGHT AT THE MCHS GYM....THE CARDINALS HOSTING MT.
VERNON AT 6:30. FORMER HEAD COACH AT MAQUOKETA, MR. T (JEFF TAMPIR) AND LEIGHTON HEPKER WILL BROADCAST THE MEET ON KMAQ-FM TONIGHT AND ON OUR INTERNET SITE....WWW.KMAQ.COM

BUSINESS NEWS: RUSS SANFORD ANNOUNCED LAST WEEK THAT HE WILL BE OPENING SOMETIME IN FEBRUARY A COMPUTER SALES AND SERVICE SHOP ON SOUTH MAIN STREET, WHERE SCOTT & OBERBROECKLING INSURANCE AGENCY IS LOCATED. HE FORMERLY WORKED AT WALSH'S ACE HARDWARE AND
RECENTLY AT RCS COMPUTERS IN MAQUOKETA. ANYONE HAVING A QUESTION SHOULD CALL RUSS AT 563-357-4715.

THE MAQUOKETA CARDINALS PLAYED DYERSVILLE BECKMAN FRIDAY NIGHT.
THE GIRLS LOST AT DYERSVILLE, 36 TO 32 (THEIR 4TH LOSS IN A ROW) BUT
THE MAQUOKETA BOYS WON ON THEIR HOME COURT, 42 TO 32. IT
WAS A CLOSE GAME UP UNTIL THE LAST FEW MINUTES. DID YOU KNOW THAT MAQUOKETA HAS A 6' 9" CENTER, SPENCER BRONSON? YES..AND HE'S JUST
A JUNIOR! ON THE TEAM....5 SENIORS....3 JUNIORS AND 4 SOPHOMORES.

SPEAKING OF BASKETBALL....FORMER MAQUOKETAN ROCKY LAMAR REACHED A COACHING MILESTONE OVER THE WEEKEND. THE LONGTIME (26 YEARS) COACH FOR MID AMERICA NAZARENE UNIVERSITY AT OLATHE,KANSAS,
WON HIS 600TH CAREER GAME SATURDAY NIGHT. HE IS ONLY THE 10TH
COACH IN NAIA TO REACH THAT LEVEL. HIS OVERALL RECORD IS NOW
600 AND 307. THIS YEAR'S TEAM IS 12 AND 7 AND 6 AND 1 IN THE CONFERENCE, GOOD FOR A FIRST PLACE TIE. ADAM HEPKER, FORMERLY OF MAQUOKETA, PLAYED POINT GUARD FOR ROCKY'S COLLEGE TEAM FOR 4 YEARS AND IS NOW ONE OF ROCKY'S ASSISTANTS.

IN BOWLING....MAQUOKETA HIGH NOW HAS A GIRLS AND BOYS BOWLING
TEAM AND LAST FRIDAY NIGHT, BOTH TEAMS WERE DEFEATED BY DEWITT,
AT TIMBER LANES HERE IN MAQUOKETA.

ALSO FRIDAY NIGHT, IN THE BUDWEISER INDUSTRIAL LEAGUE AT TIMBER LANES, KENT "CHEETO" SIMMONS ROLLED A PERFECT 300 GAME.
HE FINISHED STRONG, AFTER OPENING GAMES OF 158 AND 136.
ABOUT 40 YEARS AGO, HIS DAD, KEN (DECEASED) WAS THE MANAGER OF THE TOWN AND COUNTRY LANES, LOCATED WHERE THE THEISEN'S STORE IS NOW, ON WEST PLATT STREET. AND THERE WAS A BOWLING ESTABLISHMENT ACROSS THE HIGHWAY KNOWN AS THE HI-HO LANES. THAT'S WHERE DUTRAC IS LOCATED NOW. WHEN BOTH PLACES OPENED IN 1958, I BOWLED ON A TEAM
AT EACH. IN THOSE DAYS, SCORES WERE MUCH LOWER THAN
NOW......300 GAMES AND 700 SERIES WERE RARE.
I ONCE ROLLED A 256 AT TOWN AND COUNTRY LANES ....IN 1962.... BOWLING ON THE BILL MOLER'S B & B TEAM. IT WAS MY BEST SCORE EVER. WENT BACK TO BOWLING AFTER GETTING OUT OF THE ARMY IN 1965 AND HAVE A PHOTO HERE IN MY OFFICE....OF BILL MOLER'S TEAM WHEN WE BOWLED AT THE STATE TOURNAMENT IN BURLINGTON IN 1979. DON'T REMEMBER HOW WE DID.
MY FINAL YEAR ON A TEAM WAS IN 1980. WAS JUST TOO DARNED BUSY
THOSE DAYS.
SORRY TO RAMBLE ABOUT MY BOWLING DAYS!
AND CONGRATULATIONS TO "CHEETO"!

HAVE A GOOD WEEK.

DENNIS VOY
