THE MAQUOKETA SCHOOL BOARD AT THEIR MEETING YESTERDAY LEARNED
THAT A GEOTHERMAL SYSTEM FOR BRIGG'S ELEMENTARY SCHOOL COULD
COST ABOUT $1.8 MILLION. THE BOARD POSTPONED A DECISION TO HIRE
AN ENGINEERING FIRM TO DESIGN A SYSTEM. WHETHER THE IDEA WILL
GO FORWARD WILL DEPEND ON SOIL BORINGS TO SEE IF AN UNDERGROUND
SYSTEM IS WORKABLE IN THE AREA OF BRIGG'S SCHOOL. THREE TEST BORINGS AT A COST OF $2,950 WILL BE DONE NEXT WEEK. THEN A MEETING
WILL BE HELD SOON AFTER TO MAKE A FINAL DECISION ON THE ENERGY SAVING PROJECT. AND IF THEY DECIDE TO GO AHEAD, THEY WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE WORK COMPLETED BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS NEXT YEAR.
K MOTORSPORTS, MAQUOKETA, OWNER COLE KROMMINGA OF MONTICELLO, HAS PURCHASED THE OLD THEISEN'S STORE ON EAST PLATT IN MAQUOKETA AND PLANS TO MOVE HIS BUSINESS FROM JUST OFF SOUTH MAIN STREET TO THE LARGER BUILDING THAT HAS BEEN VACANT FOR SEVERAL YEARS.
THEISEN'S LEFT THAT BUILDING AND MOVED TO THE FORMER WAL MART
BUILDING ON WEST PLATT STREET. THEIR CURRENT BUILDING, BEHIND
FS, IS NOW FOR SALE. THEY WILL HAVE FOUR TIMES THE SPACE.
KROMMINGA SAID THEY WILLL CONTINUE TO SELL AND REPAIR ATV'S...
FOUR WHEELERS...DIRT BIKES, ETC. THEY ARE THE DEALER FOR ARTIC
CAT, KAWASAKI, SUZUKI AND POLARIS. HE SAID EMPLOYEES ARE RE-DOING
THE FLOOR OF THE FORMER THEISEN'S BUILDING AND OTHER REMODELLING
IS ALSO PLANNED. WILL BE NICE TO SEE THAT EMPTY BUILDING
USED FOR A BUSINESS AGAIN.
