MAQUOKETA...FOR A CENTURY OR MORE...CALLED THE TIMBER CITY! BELOW,
3 MORE PHOTOS TAKEN IN DOWNTOWN MAQUOKETA. HOPEFULLY, THESE TREES AND
ALL THE OTHERS CAN BE REPLACED SOMETIME SOON. THE ONES THAT LOOK OKAY, ARE TOO BIG FOR THE DOWNTOWN AREA. AND SINCE SEVERAL SPACES NO LONGER HAVE A TREE AT ALL, THE PRESENT TREES ARE NO LONGER EVENLY SPACED. THE PLANTERS DOWNTOWN ARE REALLY NICE, AND COURTESY OF THE MASTER GARDENERS. ALSO
NOTICE THAT AT THE BASE OF THE TREES...A FEW WEEDS TOO. BUT, IT HAS BEEN
ONE OF THOSE SUMMERS FOR MORE WEEDS THAN NORMAL, RIGHT? I BELIEVE
THAT NEW TREES AND NEW LOW ENERGY STREET LIGHTS (ON SHORTER POLES)WILL BE
A START FOR A BETTER DOWNTOWN. MAYBE THE CITY AND CHAMBER (WITH SOME
PUBLIC AND BUSINESS DONATIONS) CAN GET SOMETHING STARTED IN 2012.
MAQUOKETA'S 175 BIRTHDAY IS GETTING CLOSER AND A BETTER DOWNTOWN WOULD
BE GREAT FOR THE BIRTHDAY PARTY. AS ALWAYS, CLICK-ON EACH PHOTO TO MAKE IT LARGER.
