SHOULD BE A VERY GOOD SHOW! IT WAS GOOD WHEN I SAW IT IN BRANSON A FEW YEARS AGO.
THAT FIRST WEEK KMAQ-AM WAS ON-THE-AIR, 53 YEARS AGO, BILL GOLD RAN QUITE A FEW SPOTS ADVERTISING A BIG PAINT SALE...FOR GOLD'S DECORATING LOCATED BELOW
THE KMAQ STUDIOS. THE FIRST SPOTS I MYSELF SOLD WERE TO DWIGHT DARNELL OF THE DARNELL OIL COMPANY ON SOUTH MAIN STREET, NEXT TO PETERSON'S A & W DRIVE-IN...THE ZEPHYR STATION. WE WAS A REGULAR ADVERTISER AFTER THAT UNTIL HE SOLD THE STATION IN THE EARLY 70'S. AND HE WOULD PAY FOR THE
SPOTS IN CASH 3 MONTHS IN ADVANCE. RADIO SPOTS THEN WERE ABOUT $1.50...GAS
WAS AROUND 27-CENTS A GALLON...VICEROY CIGARETTES WERE ABOUT A QUARTER
A PACK AND I WAS MAKING $65 A WEEK AND RENTING A SLEEPING ROOM FOR $7.50
A WEEK.
HAVE A NICE WEEKEND.
