MOSTLY CLOUDY TODAY.
GOT DOWN TO 3 ABOVE THIS MORNING AND A HIGH OF 18 TODAY.
THE MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCIL RECENTLY HELD A GOAL MEETING FOR THE
CITY, TO TALK ABOUT GOALS FOR 2011. AT THE MEETING, THEY LISTED
THE FOLLOWING: FINISH THE SOUTH MAIN STREET WALKING TRAIL....
PAVE 17TH STREET (BEHIND WAL MART LEADING TO THE PRAIRIE CREEK
GOLF COURSE)....WORK ON PARK EQUIPMENT AT LITTLE BEAR PARK......DEVELOP
A DOWNTOWN STREETSCAPE ... AND SET UP A PUBLIC NOTIFICATION SYSTEM.
TO HELP PAY FOR THE PROJECTS, COUNCIL MEMBERS SAID THEY WANTED TO HAVE A $2 MILLION GENERAL OBLIGATION BOND. ALSO ON THEIR LIST WAS A CITYWIDE
CLEANUP AND CREATING A VISION FOR THE CITY. AND THEY WANT TO UPDATE
THE EMERGENCY PLAN FOR THE CITY AND DOWNTOWN IMPROVEMENT.
AND LASTLY, THEY WANTED TO INSTITUTE A CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT LEVY WHICH WOULD REQUIRE A VOTE OF THE PUBLIC.
SOUNDS LIKE GOOD PROJECTS FOR A WINNING LOTTO TICKET!
GOODWILL IS COMING TO MAQUOKETA! AND, WE LEARNED THIS WEEEK, ALSO TO
DEWITT. THE DEWITT LOCATION ON 11TH STREET (OLD HIGHWAY 30) WILL
BE OPEN 7 DAYS A WEEK WITH THREE FULL-TIME AND SOME PART-TIME
WORKERS AND IT WILL BE FOR ACCEPTING DONATIONS ONLY. NO SALES TO
THE PUBLIC. THE MAQUOKETA STORE (FORMER FAREWAY BUILDING) WILL BE A SALES OUTLET AS WELL AS A COLLECTION CENTER FOR DONATED ITEMS.
THANKS FOR CHECKING IN AGAIN.
