IT IS RAINING NOW IN MAQUOKETA.
THE REST OF THE WEEK SHOULD BE BETTER. IN FACT, SHOULD BE VERY GOOD.

IN GIRL'S SOFTBALL, MAQUOKETA WILL HOST CENTER POINT URBANA IN
TOURNAMENT ACTION. GAME WAS SET FOR 7 P.M. THEY WILL DELAY THE
START UNTIL 8 TONIGHT HOPING THE RAIN WILL BE OVER BY THEN.
THE GIRLS BEAT DUBUQUE WAHLERT SATURDAY NIGHT TO ADVANCE TO
TONIGHT'S GAME. IF THEY WIN TONIGHT, THEY HAVE ONE MORE GAME
TO WIN AND IF THEY DO THAT LATER IN WEEK, THEY (RANKED 9TH IN THE
STATE) WOULD GO TO THE STATE TOURNAMENT IN FORT DODGE.

WHEN I WAS IN THE ARMY AT FORT HOOD TEXAS, I WORKED WITH
ANOTHER ARMY MAN AT THE PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICE THAT
WAS A BIG FAN OF PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING. HE WAS IN THE NEWSPAPER SECTION OF THE OFFICE AND I WAS IN THE RADIO-TV SECTION. THIS WAS
IN 1964. HE WENT ON TO A CAREER AS A SPORTSWRITER IN THE STATE
OF WASHINGTON AND ALSO DID SOME SPORTS BROADCASTING THERE.
WE HAVE KEPT IN TOUCH OVER THE YEARS. SATURDAY, HE RECEIVED A SPECIAL
AWARD AT THE DAN GABLE INTERNATIONAL WRESTLING INSTITUTE AND
MUSEUM IN WATERLOO, FOR BEING ONE OF THE LEADING PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING HISTORIANS IN THE WORLD. HE CONTINUES WORK ON HIS ENCYCLOPEDIA THAT WILL COVER PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING FROM 1886 TO 1985. ALSO, SEVERAL WRESTLERS WERE ADDED TO THE HALL OF FAME SATURDAY. I
MET SEVERAL, INCLUDING PAUL "BUTCHER" VACHON, AGE 72,.....HIS BROTHER MAURICE "MAD DOG" VACHON, AGE 82.....TERRY FUNK.....MICK FOLEY.....AND
CHARLIE THESZ, WIFE OF THE LATE GREAT LOU THESZ. BACK IN 1964, THIS ARMY
FRIEND, J MICHAEL KENYON, AND HIS FIRST OF FOUR WIVES, LIVED IN THE
APARTMENT NEXT DOOR TO OURS AND WE BOTH WORKED OFF BASE ONCE A WEEK
AT THE LOCAL WRESTLING ARENA WHERE HE DID UP THE PROGRAMS AND I
(FOR $10 A NIGHT) WAS THE RING ANNOUNCER. HE AND I ALSO TEAMED UP
TO DO FORT HOOD ARMY FOOTBALL GAMES FOR THE LOCAL RADIO STATION,
KLEN. I DID THE PLAY-PLAY-PLAY AND HE DID THE COLOR. SO, WE HAD
SOME FUN TIMES TOGETHER IN THE ARMY AND IT WAS GOOD SEEING HIM GET
HIS AWARD SATURDAY AND MEETING ALL THE WRESTLING FANS AT THAT
VERY NICE MUSEUM IN WATERLOO. IT IS QUITE LARGE AND INCLUDES
ALL FORMS OF WRESTLING, INCLUDING HIGH SCHOOL. SAW ON ONE OF THE
WALLS, THE PHOTO OF ERIC JUERGENS, MCHS GRAD, WHO WON THE HIGH
SCHOOL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP ALL FOUR YEARS OF HIS HIGH SCHOOL DAYS
IN MAQUOKETA. NO, I HAVE NOT BEEN A PRO WRESTLING FAN SINCE MY
ARMY DAYS......BUT THIS DAILY REPORT TELLS YOU I WAS A FAN FOR A SHORT TIME MANY YEARS AGO. MILLIONS OF PEOPLE STILL LOVE PRO WRESTLING, BUT LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE, IT HAS CHANGED A LOT OVER THE YEARS.

HAVE A GOOD WEEK AND THANKS FOR CHECKING IN.

DENNIS VOY
