COOL TODAY...HIGH OF ONLY 70.
A SLIGHT CHANCE OF RAIN THIS SUNDAY AND MONDAY.
IT HAS BEEN ABOUT 3 WEEKS SINCE ANY RAIN.
THE LOCAL HOSPITAL BOARD VOTED TODAY TO ENTER INTO A CONTRACT WITH A QUAD CITY FIRM TO OPERATE THE DIALYSIS CENTER AT THE MAQUOKETA HOSPITAL, EFFECTIVE NOVEMBER 1ST. THE FIRM WILL BUY THE EQUIPMENT AND RENT
THE SPACE. GOOD NEWS FOR MAQUOKETA. FOUR OR FIVE USE THE UNIT
NOW. THERE WERE AROUND 15 EARLIER THIS SUMMER (AND OVER 20 AT ONE TIME) AND I DON'T KNOW WHY THE NUMBER IS LOW NOW. APPARENTLY WHEN IT WAS ANNOUNCED THAT IT WOULD BE CLOSED, SOME PATIENTS MOVED TO A DIFFERENT
CENTER. IT IS HOPED MANY OF THOSE WILL COME BACK.
THERE ARE 63 STUDENTS NOW PARTICIPATING IN THE 4-YEAR-OLD NEW PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAM THIS YEAR. THE NUMBER INCREASES TO 89 WHEN THE SPECIAL-NEEDS KIDS ARE INCLUDED. THERE ARE FOUR LOCATIONS: 7 ARE AT SACRED HEART...21 AT FIRST LUTHERAN.....16 AT CARDINAL ELEMENTARY AND 17 AT SUNSHINE. THE DISTRICT RECEIVES FROM THE STATE, $3,328 PER 4-YEAR OLD FROM THE STATE AND THEN REIMBURSES THE PRIVATE SCHOOLS ON A PER PUPIL BASIS. HELEN SNELL IS MAQUOKETA'S PRE-SCHOOL COORDINATOR.
MAQUOKETA HOMECOMING FESTIVITIES START SUNDAY AFTERNOON AT THE NEW HIGH SCHOOL WITH THE ANNUAL JERSEY AUCTION SPONSORED BY THE ATHLETIC BOOSTERS CLUB.
HAVE A GOOD THURSDAY NIGHT AND FRIDAY.
I WILL BE OUT OF TOWN TOMORROW, SO NO FRIDAY REPORT.
I WILL HAVE THE FOOTBALL SCORE SOMETIME SATURDAY MORNING.
